300+tw tire chunking
Has anyone (intermediate/advanced) managed to track on 300+tw tires and not have their tires chunk? If so, what’s your setup and which tires?
I ran 3 sessions on Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 and my left tires (CW track) were falling apart. This is a stock suspension 2022 BRZ with -2.5 degrees front camber. I was hoping to run stock suspension and low grip tires for a while until I had more time to track regularly again, but don’t want to be constantly destroying my street tires either. Granted I was pushing pretty hard and using trail-braking to get the front end to turn in, but curious if it’s these tires or if all 300tw tires will be like this. Maybe I just need to go back to track tires.

Interesting, I've only seen water spraying for autox. Wouldn't the tire cool sufficiently in the 1+ hr between sessions? Smoother/less inputs would definitely help. Probably just need to dial things back overall and accept what the car's giving me, or use better tires.

You mentioned trail braking into corners which is probably the first thing you can try cutting back on. The water spraying would depend how your events are run. I've been to ones with 1 hour lapping and few people/cars will be able to stay out for that long. I've also been to events without structured run sessions. I personally break down those down into roughly 15 min stints with a 15 min break in between (I don't bother spraying tires though). |

I’ve never seen/had much love for Dunlop tires.
What is their manufacture date? That rubber could be past it’s prime.

Thinking about it more, I think I'm going to throw my old coilovers on the car and increase front camber to -3.5. Should help the car rotate a bit more on entry. Inevitably this car is becoming a clone of my 1st gen lol.

Overheating the tire and literally tearing it with too much steering input for the conditions.
You also need more camber for that tire to help cut it. |

I have Goodyear Eagle f1 assy 3(215 std size) that came on the car, old in other words. Ive hammered these as hard as i can, including deep trail braking. I wore them half way down to the rim edge . However they somehow keep up, no chunks at all and wear rate is surprisingly reasonable considering the use. But they do like a slower cool down lap in between, and its smart not to have to long sessions. Should be other semi high performance tyres out there that can keep up, the Dunlops doesnt seem to though.
