Hey Neutral, don't let it get you down. Everyone has an accident sometime or another, nobody was hurt, and you're a braver man than most for posting how it happened on here so other people can learn. I feel your heartache over the damage to the car, though, as I've had that happen to beloved brand-new four-wheel companions of mine too.

The way I see it, some good came out of it (personal experience + better understanding) and you coming out and explaining the story just gave me an eye opener too. So I guess thank you for crashing? jk. Honestly though, don't beat yourself up over what internet ppl behind their screens might think.

People bitching about insurance: If you're clean and haven't done anything and you have a insurance company worth anything more than the dirt in my yard you'll be fine. Quit fucking complaining.

Wow that sucks but it does look repairable. I gotta give props to the owner for being so brutally honest about the accident way to stand up dude I hope they can fix your ride go get some track time and learn your cars limits.

So yeah, like you said, learn the car in a safe environment. All the books in the world can't replace time behind the wheel.
Yeah very common mistake from FWD drivers being used to that safety net of lifting. With a Torsen diff you can still lift fairly safety due to the torque xfer but if the cars already going/gone it takes away the forward momentum and you become a passenger.

I reckon you should get another one (BRZ?) and go out and get it sideways again man. Just make sure you have enough space around you (track/skid pad is best) so this doesn't happen again. You're young, insurance will take the easy path and write it off, reset button ftw!

I read the whole thread and I don't hate you. You are being feature as the 1st guy to crash a FRS this will prob be on car sites everywhere sorry to say. You are being punished enough I would say.

RWD mechanics are total different and you can't learn how to drive a FRS watching other videos of people drifting different cars as not all cars handle the same way, you should of practice and experienced the cars characteristics somewhere safe.

Drift ready car does not make you drift ready but I hope don't worry we are all idiots at one point in our lives. :happy0180:

If you were not injured, consider it lucky. Everyone goes through a mishap behind the wheel a few times in life. Don't sweat it, and take care of the situation and come back to enjoy the roads.

WE'll all be waiting for you!!

Wow tough luck man...

This is kind of giving me second thoughts on getting one of these. My current car (03 Cooper S) hugs the road like anything, barely understeers at the speeds you can do on the road safely. It has never scared me. I have only owned FWD cars. I have fanged around in AWD (rally training, STi, Evo 7) cars which essentially act as a FWD anyway. And I have fanged around in big heavy powerful RWD V8's (track day). This is a different beast that I've never experienced.

I have done one stupid thing in a car before, my first car, a Hyundai Accent (lol), had just done a little handbreaky in a dirt parking lot and thought it was fun. I knew this cars limits as the limits where very easy to get to, but its limit on this one was me. I decided around a corner on a side street to pull the handbreak, straight into the curb and popped my tyre. I was lucky and learnt a lot from that...

Going to RWD and having the posibility of not having as much grip as my current car is going to be somewhat bad... I am not one to turn off traction control though, ever.

That WRX is looking more appealing... I must test drive both obviously.

Glad you're OK!!

As many have said, you learn from your mistakes! I have had my mishaps with RWD cars (none of which have had Traction control) but thankfully I never have had an accident. Now I try to keep the spirited driving to a minimum.

Hope it works out for you in the end!

While alot of people are complaining that 200Hp is not enough, 200Hp is alot of power for the Scion car buyers who are usually young first time car buyers. 30 years ago V8s had less than 200HP. This is why there is traction control on cars now.

The guy said he was not racing doing 20-30 clicks, just probably want to hang the tail out a little. Could have ran over some oil in the center from the description of the accident that just happened suddenly. That is one reason you do not do stuff like that on the street, the surface is not consistant.
Could be the tires have no lateral control but just break away suddenly.
Would have been better to try the car out in an empty parking lot first to see how the tires break traction. Remember the stock tires are Touring tires not HP tires.

Too bad but shit happens.

In the end we all lose. Insurance premiums go up, innocent drivers get a bad label and a bullseye on their forehead.

Sorry I don't sound sympathetic. Glad the driver is ok though.

I'm around the same age as you (25), and I've only had one speeding ticket my whole life, but I totalled my dad's car when I was 16. It takes a lot to admit to something like this. I give you major kudos for admitting you did something wrong AND trying to get others not to make the same mistakes.

It was a lapse of judgment that killed a 16-17 year old kid in the canyon driving up to my house too. Consider yourself lucky and make it a reason to make changes. =]

And to the douchebag forum members talking shit before even finding out if he was okay... All I have to say is that I hope you don't eat your own words. This specific situation could have been avoided, but I've seen plenty of cars wrapped around poles, etc. that have been hit by other cars / drivers. I was almost sideswiped in my GTR a few days ago by an idiot in a van texting. Decided last minute she didn't want to exit so just took my lane on the 405. Thank God it was night and I saw her phone's screen lighting up her face in my peripherals.

It's a damn person, who gives a shit about insurance rates / spare parts / "what people will think"... to the everyday driver... the FRS is just a "tC" or a new tiburon... nothing special... especially in the scope of a serious accident.

All of those will snap way more violently than this car.

IMO you couldn't find a better first RWD.

Just take it as a cautionary tale!

that investment went down the drain with a flip of a switch. I feel really bad for the owner and the car. Good thing no one was hurt physically but i know emotionally that you are all wrecked inside.

I dont even think you got your license plate yet and the car is all wrecked.
