Shift resistance

I'm still moderately new to all of the mechanics involved in a MT, but lately I've noticed a bunch of resistance when shifting into first and second gears when the car is running.

If I try and force it into gear it will eventually lock in if I wiggle it left and right a bit, and I won't get any grinding (although I will hear a bit of a whirring noise as it slips into gear). With the car off, the shifts are perfectly smooth.

Has anyone else noticed this and/or is it a problem? Is this fixed with a change of hardware, trans oil, or technique?

Thanks!

If its colder in your area, and this is the first time you've driven in the cold thats probably all it is.

try replacing your tranny oil, factory oil is sheeeittty.
Motul/Redline Amsoil work nicely and im sure there are some others. gm synchromesh worked wonders on hondas, maybe that would work well in our trannies too?
