The white casing, and the inside housing is gold, but it's very hard to notice it. You'll only see the gold if the sunlight shines on it in a certain way. They are also less smoked than the black version.

FT-86 Speedfactory (OP) still didn't answer my first question regarding the reflectors and also completely ignored it. Seems very shady.

I skipped it because the answer would require a book explaining it. It's approved with the correct code stamped on to it. DOT/SAE gets very lengthy. You are free to research the codes and etc on your own for your local law requirements.

Yep - there's a toggle switch on each taillight that flips it from sequential to normal mode.

I'm interested in these lights and don't wand to deal with a ticket, so I did exactly this.

Backing up a bit: FMVSS and DOT are one set of regulations (are they visible at X distance? are they red and not another color? etc.) Manufacturers self-certify and submit results to the government to get a DOT approval; that's what's happened here.

Individual states have their own laws - which is what your local police/highway patrol enforce. When you're pulled over for lights you aren't cited for them being non-DOT compliant; you're cited for them not adhering to ______ section of your state's motor vehicle code.

For Washington State (where I live), the applicable bits are here:

Quote:
RCW 46.37.100

(2) Rear clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.
If you watch the video on the lights, the red color of the curved light when the headlights are on is easily visible from the sides of the vehicle. There may not be a distinct reflector here, but the wording in WA states says 'display or reflect', and the lights are doing one of those.

Your state may vary, and of course IANAL.

A couple dumb questions but I'm having trouble finding real answers online.

Are the 2016s brighter overall or have brighter LEDs than the earlier models? I have the old black edition ones with the red bar inside the smoked housing and I feel like the brake and turn signals are pretty hard to see during the daytime especially the turn signals from any angle that is not straight behind the car. The new video with them on the shop car looked significantly brighter than my lights even with the same smoked lens but wasn't sure if that was due to the lightning in the video.

Do you have an updated timeframe on when the ft86 special editions might be in stock? they look great
@FT-86 SpeedFactory

EDIT: Just placed an order for the FT86SpeedFactory special editions with the black housing/clear lens. They looked so good I couldn't resist As soon as they are in stock and on the car I'll get some pics in this thread!
