for me it was the left side, the metal bar was sliding into the latch to high, so when the hook of the latch would close, it had play room, so that side of the seat needed to come up, so with the seat folded down, i pulled it towards me. you can get at these hinges by just un fastening the bottom of the carpet and pulling it over, its one bolt, 12mm. make sure you pull quite hard while tightening the bolt back down, as the torque wiil try to twist the hinge out of place. hopefull this works for other people too cause that was driving me crazy!

I have the same problem. Rattling/popping in the rear. It would go away temporarily when slamming the rear seatback shut. It's not the rear deck since I already "cracked" the welds open and sprayed lithium grease.

Thanks for the info! I just did this fix and it worked for me. Drove the car 100 miles today, the popping noise hasn't returned. Mine also turned out to be the driver side hinge. Easiest fix so far. Anyone with a popping/rattling rear deck should try this fix first.

Resurrecting an old post...I know this is an old thread, but the rear seat rattle just reared its ugly head a month ago at around 11,500 miles on my 2015 FR-S (now with 12,500 miles).

Initially, I thought this was a suspension noise since it seemed worst when the car twisted a bit over asymmetric road bumps. I had jacked up the car and checked everything underneath (on the odd chance it was a loose sway bar bushing). Nothing was loose and the heat shield above the muffler was not hitting anything. I then checked the trunk. I removed everything (tire, foam, tools, plastic retainers, and rear seat back) and reinstalled and tightened all. After this, I pretty well isolated this to the rear seat latches. I messed with the rear seat latches, slamming the seat, then pushing the seat top buttons down to insure it was well latched. It seemed to get better, then came back with a vengeance a couple of days later. Today, after reading this thread, I unbolted the rear seat hinges and pulled the seat back towards me. I greased (using Phil Wood bicycle grease) and sprayed the seat latches with some Lithium WD-40. I also sprayed the package tray seams on the off chance it was the rear tray "pop". In any case, a test ride that rattled like crazy yesterday was repeated today. It seems to have been resolved.

Old thread but relevant. I was also having the single pop noise coming from the rear seat latch. I loosed and adjusted the bracket as discussed above and lubed the workings of the latch with vaseline and it has so far eliminated the noise. Thank you, it was driving me crazy!
