I bet the programmer put the real price at first but someone realized it had to be changed because the public would have access to it. They wouldn't care about dropping price hints plus they'd probably get fired if they tried. They just write code that gets the job done with minimal effort and, in this case, just flipped one digit (the most significant one) to cover their butt. This is very typical practice for a programmer.

And it looks like any code between the "<!--" and "-->" gets nullified (aka commented out. Anyone know HTML?) which is why we don't see it when we load the web page. But that section of code looks meaningful and wasn't deleted so it's definitely a place holder.

Just picture what it would be like if this car cost $15,840...

Then go on to say that you don't know any html.

I wouldn't believe that the web guy has any knowledge of the price, he just gets told to add it. It would just be fill text.

I also have this image. This is what it looks like without the html commented out.

That was a pretty clever find because that is where they will put the right price. I think the programmer just put a place holder that wouldn't drop hints. I'm not gonna lie I'm going to pay attention to the source code for now on.

There is no way that price is right since the xD starts at $16,075.

if this is true (Which I don't think so) then the FR-S will be a SMASH HIT for 2012... if production capacity is unlimited they would sell over 100K units within 12 months :P

you guys DO realize that if this WAS true, then these car would be sold out almost immediately, and we'd all be waiting for months to get them, right?

Better waiting months and saving thousands of dollars than getting them first and be short 10K. :P

But yeah, that ain't happening.

If that's true, I predict:
BRZ Premium = high 26k to low 27k
BRZ Limited = low to mid 28k
That's WAY too much considering what the scion comes w/ and it's competition.

I can see a fully loaded FR-S at 26 grand, but definately not a standard one. Yes it's a good looking car, but there is way too much competition at that price.

Akio Toyoda said specifically it would be priced low enough that people would get surprised. That would be closer to 20-23K.

at 26k for a scion; they have to deal w/

Mustang GT $25,800
(412 hp)

Audi A3 $27,000 (219hp AWD, luxury)

Dodge Challenger R/T $27,800 (410 hp)

Mazda RX-8 $25,500

Mazda Miata $21,900

Mazda Mazdaspeed 3 $23,800

VW GTi $23,900
or
VW GTi w/ DSG $24,900 (arguably one of the best autos ever, definitely the best in this price range)

Volvo C30 $23,200
Volvo C30R $25,400

No way the FRS is $15.8k and $16.6k.. not a chance.

I also don't think it's going to be $25.8k.. That seems too high to me.

I bet the developer of those pages built his/her first page in that format for the Scion Xd a year or two ago. The $15.8 and 16.8 were probably the prices for that car at the time. When he was done designing that first page, he probably used it as a template for all the other pages.. he'd copy it over to that new page and then only have to change the wording and photo.

^ YEP.. Found it.. 2011 MSRP for scion Xd was $15840 for manual and $16640 for auto trans.. exactly the prices on the first post. http://holmanscion.com/PurePrice.aspx Also found those exact numbers on Kelley Blue Book and True car for their 2011 Scion Xd pages.
So yeah.. count on these prices simply being from a template.. they will be corrected in the future.. let's hope the real number starts with a 22 or 23...
