I had the one on my 76 Econoline snap right off. Yes they were still using that stuff in 76 but it was rare. Finding a replacement was like searching for the holy grail!

Most have been a Ford thing. My Uncle had this happen in the middle of an impromptu drag race with a buddy of his "racing" a couple of 1968 F100 farm trucks. He got the jump at the light but the shifter came off when he shoved it up into second. I was in the truck to witness the event and was sworn to secrecy until many years later.

This why Speco or B&M were the go to mod.

3 on the tree was rubbish, but easily fixed.

Yep, although that's what I learned to drive in, a couple of F100s and then my Grandmother's 1968 Corvair with a floor shifter. She drove that thing like she stole it.
