Blown engine! known head problems?

Driving along today, 55mph 6th gear, engine started making a clacking sound which quickly became a very loud clacking metallic sound coming from drivers head region. Fine metal particles in oil, engine seems done for. Any known problems with the heads/ valvetrain? The car is fi and has ran flawlessly for 10k with the turbo. Also has gfb crank pulley. Any advice for trying to get a warranty engine replacement? Going to remove turbo and all components, replace all stock components, and flash back to stock. So yeah, ideas, advice?

Any warning signs? Running lean? How much boost? Really hard to say because even a stock car could have problems. It's going to be hard to warranty claim with a turbo on for that long, but see what you can do.

Doubt it. How many non-FI twins have you heard blowing their engines?
Sounds like you may have to put out money for another engine. This is one of those things you should already be prepared for when going FI, right??
I don't think you'll have good luck trying to fool the dealership with something like this. Either way, good luck.

Definitely not enough detail to determine what the actual cause may have been... Which turbo kit? Pro tune? PSI?

Either way, best of luck with the warranty deal!

I was always planning for failure, just not that soon, only 20k on the car total. Car was also not under boost when noise appeared, just cruising along. fa20club kit 5psi of boost, nothing radical, still on their tune, which i've always had some issues with but failure seemed mechanical, i know there has been some issues with the cam gears, i even heard of cams and rockers snapping. The car has never been to the dealer with the fi setup and i do have original oil pan, header, etc. Also have stock tune to reflash. Just does not seem like a boost related failure.

Car still runs, sound like a something is completely destroyed in passenger head, engine is not even shaking or misfiring. Threw a code for p000a, p0011 "camshaft over advanced" and 'camshaft position slow response"

Any chance you floated a valve into a piston?

To be honest any possibility of warranty is out the window. They will more than likely check the ecu to see if their was any changes made and deem you are at fault. They will do everything in their power to put the blame on you and wash their hands free of replacing the motor because it was an error on their end...also there have been cases of some dealerships following the forums as well...Although it is worth a shot. Also just read you bought the FA20 club kit...afraid to say that there is where your problem lies not the car itself.

I've seen FA20club tuned cars knock to -5 degrees while cruising on E50 blend...

Just FYI, it is nearly impossible to make E50-E85 knock... Like REALLY, REEEEEALLY hard...

So, even if you were cruising, might have been knocking quite a few.

Also important to note, there is a local with FA20club kit that has a metal clanking sound in one head (he says the sound was present before turbo kit, it just got worse now) and it seems it has to do with camshaft advance mechanism.

Not even going to get into FA20club and tuning. That's problem #1 right there is entrusting Toni with your FI setup.
