@touge, do you bleed (the breaks) at the track?

No I prepped everything before the track day. I ran fluid and lines on stock pads at laguna my first time out glad I did too. That track can be hard on brakes turn #2 is especially brutal turn #11 as well. Stock pads are ok but after a few laps you will need to back off the brakes a bit.

Thanks. I should have pads before track.

Planning on doing fluid and pads before my trackday (if I ever get to signing up for one, lol)

What fluid and pads do you guys recommend? I've got the same pads as @PMok but ended up returning them after he mentioned how loud they were on the street (didn't want to have to swap pads every time I go on a track). Also go speed bleeders, so I'll probably install everything at the same time.

^^^ I have Stoptech SS lines and Superblue Ate fluid. Not the greatest in the world but within budget. I speedbleed my lines just few and top it off with Ate before some of our drives. The pedal feel aka "dead zone" is reduced again. Pads, the shop is recommending Raybestos but they have to cut it for our cars. Other cars have used them and said noise is tolerable on the street, we should see. But I will bring my stock pads just incase and waiting for friendly price on OEMs.

I got the flare tools and pump to R&R so just hit me when you're ready.

I'm trying Project Mu HC+800 pads as I've been advised by other track going acquaintances they are adequate for track use (not best) on the FR-S and perfectly streetable. I installed them last night and so far I'll go along with the streetable part... we'll see about the trackable part. Haven't had much success with dual purpose pads in the past but since this is my DD i'm going to give them 1 more shot.

In my other car I use Carbotech XP 12/10 pads (swear by em), ate superblue, and oem lines. After this weekend I'll be doing a homemade/budget bbk and prolly switch to SS lines but I haven't felt I've needed them up to this point... just nice to have for long-term durability and peace of mind. I usually only bleed my brakes every 6 mos or so. I haven't found a need for more than that.

Im running hawk hp+ fronts and hps rears. The hp+ pads are noisy on the street never bothered to change them out after my last track day. They are annoying but Im willing to put up with them for now. I know there are better pads out there for both street and track use.

Fun weekend tracking the FR-S for the first time. Saw a handful of other FR-S/BRZ owners out there as well. I observed an orange FRS, blue BRZ, and a white BRZ in Open/Chrono on Sun, and a handful of others.

Some quick impressions:
1. A stock FR-S is definitely over-matched in NCRC's Open group... especially since they added the Chrono drivers back into the Open group. I estimate my lap times to be somewhere in the mid 2:1x (cyclone - no bypass). Not the slowest out there, but significantly off the pace of the front runners in that group.

2. I forgot what it felt like to run a factory suspension car on sticky street tires. FR-S is definitely set up better than most other factory cars but there is still ALOT of motion, roll, and pitch in it. This is the first time I heard my gf complain about motion sickness on track.

3. The FR-S is definitely prone to a little oversteer (with all the traction controls off) but it's completely progressive and controllable. Great fun to drive. I also noticed some mid corner understeer when I was trying to carry more speed than I probably should thru some of the sweeping corners. Not easy to get it back to balance once the front tires are pushing.

4. I was pleasantly surprised by the P.Mu HC+800 pads. They are definitely not full track pads and did exhibit some fade but never completely fell off. Stopping distances and pedal modulation were what one would expect from a hybrid street/track pad but they didn't destroy my rotors and hapilly drove them to work this morning so 2 thumbs up.

Oh yea, 1 more thing...

5. I really wish the FR-S didn't have the such protruding fins on the side of the center console (along side the AC controls + console). My knee actually has a sore/tender spot on it from pressing up against the fins on the center stack while cornering all day.

Cool... I'm itching for another track day, so I might sign up for the May 19 Laguna Seca day... will probably do Solo since I haven't done LS in years.

Do they make padded console covers? Not surprised... I can't be the only one with a sore right knee. Not a fan of that center stack design.
