Ice Fabrication/off the line coil pack connectors - Upgrade to 2015+

Anyone give this product a shot yet? I am curious about quality. I found a set of 2015+ coil packs a while ago for a steal so this could be a good low budget option to solve the 2013-2014 coil pack issues. I ordered a set and will report back on the install and results.

Now that I am seeing this, I wonder if I could just de-pin the current 2013 connectors and put the OEM terminated crimps into the 2015+ connector......I might have just spent too much money on pre-terminated pigtails.

I reached out to both companies asking if the terminal pins are the same on the 2013-14 and 2015+. I will report back when I get a reply.

Ice Fabrication replied stating they tried looked into the pins and they are in fact different. So new pins are required.

I JUST remembered that. Maybe it's not too late to cancel your order though?

Thanks. Ice Fab was really understanding. I will snag those from FT86 Speedfactory instead

The 2013-2014 coil packs fail when in high demand environments like the racetrack or boosted applications. Subaru/Toyota upgraded them somewhere mid-2014 to a more heat resilient coil pack. Unfortunatly when they did this they changed the connector. So they are not a direct replacement. Thus this thread.

Just curious. Has anybody done a side by side comparison of the early vs late coil packs? Other than the plug, what is the difference? Old ones fail due to age. Do the new ones actually last longer?

Using e85 also seems to make the issue worse, especially in track conditions.

I’m also curious to know how much of a difference the 2017 coilpacks make.

I will do a side by side comparison when my parts come in. I assume they appear identical. I cant find the information but I remember in 2015 when subaru had their first engine component update it was stated that they were an enhanced design to deal with the heat issues they saw on the 2013-2014. I am sure age takes a toll but heat is also a contributing factor to coil failure. My car is a dedicated track car and in the 8 years (almost 50k miles) I have owned it, doing 10-35 track days a year, I have gone through 4 coils.

Nice, looking forward to the comparison!

Really similar numbers on my 2013 as well. Owned for 9y/48k miles, 40+ track days, lot of canyon drives, and... 6 coils

Agree on heat being a major contributor.
