SCCA Solo D Street discussion

Ran an event in Huntsville yesterday after I removed my TRD springs and put car in DS trim. Was able to get within .1 sec of Nats DS champion on a 60+ sec course. Felt the car handled no differently than with TRD springs. Just an early subjective observation. And I did not drive the car to its potential.

Did you also have the TRD swaybars? Those probably make more of a difference than the TRD springs.

I run a 20mm Whiteline in front on stiff and OTS Koni yellow inserts and car is just about tuned in. Never bought the rear TRD cause I did not think the car needed it. Never pushed unless I over drove car. Trophied a couple of Tours last year and Co driver won Bristol Match tour in the car. But he is an alien....

So I look forward to the diverse DS class next year...

Hi everybody - I am building up my 2013 FR-S for D Street and I have a question regarding the use of Koni front replacement struts. The question relates to whether I should use Koni's complete replacement struts or the inserts. I have a good understanding of what needs to be done to use the inserts and I don't have a problem with going that route if it is best, but for the sake of convenience I am considering using the complete replacement strut if it can be done legally under D Street class specifications.


The issue is (of course) that I understand that the locating holes are bigger on the Koni complete units allowing a greater camber adjustment, particularly if using the 14mm crash bolts.


Is it legal to use the Koni complete units and the 14mm crash bolts if the camber is set within the limits that would otherwise be legal?


If I really want to use the Koni units (i.e., not inserts) what is the best course of action to stay legal within the Street classes?

Koni offers lock-out washers that make the shocks legal for street class and will send them to you at no charge. They are not legal without them.

It should also be noted that the inserts were prone to leak out through the adjusters.

Just buy the full replacements and call/email Koni to send you the mount inserts (required to be DS/CS legal) when you order the struts. They responded to my email within 10 minutes and sent the inserts very quickly.

The 2017 SCCA rules and classification are out, but the 2017 BRZ/86 are nowhere to be found in street class. But they are there in STX!
Also the other 2017 cars are in Street.
I don't understand. I'm buying a 2017 in a couple months, will I be in C or D, or is the 2017 not elegible in street, only in STX?
This make no sense.

Edit: I sent an email to the SEB asking them to class the 2017 twins in street. I'm not a member, so not sure if they'll consider my letter, but it's worth a shot.

Probably an innocent oversight, but a pretty disappointing one, especially for those parts of the country that have already held events under the new rules.

My guess is that the 2017s will continue in DS unless they have TRD parts. The update is incremental and not all that game changing; your gearing will make you accelerate a bit better at the cost of shifting more. Just beware, since the model has changed, they could change the classing at any time via the 12-month rule.

I had knee surgery today, so sometime tomorrow I will be editing the first post with my pass at the DS parts bin. I will probably leave some parts out if I don't know about 'em so once that's up, feel free to contribute and I'll keep updating that post!

I could see the 2017s in CS. They do have a larger rear sway bar. There is also the 17x7.5 wheels some of the models can get.

I would agree that the 2017's at least with the Subaru performance package or TRD package would be in CS.

I could see the normal 2017 cars without those to just be in DS with all the others.

I hope you are recovering well from your knee surgery. I hear rehab is the key and not a lot of fun.

I am recovering from back surgery last Thursday. Hope to be released before the Dixie Tour. But I think DS will be interesting and course dependent with the WRX and Mustang Turbo thrown in. CS is looking very NDish...
