Probably the worst Toyota 86 video ever!

I think they're trying to market it to a 'broader' audience here.

In all honesty there's not so many of us 'purist' types around here - most folks prefer big power straight line cars and many folks don't have a manual license so they're bringing in lots of ATs.

That's why I'm jumping in on an MT early - afraid they might discontinue MTs here like they did with the Miata.

The more people they can get to buy it the better I guess...but a lot of the F2F types are gonna get real butthurt at the lights.

True. It really is a strange car culture out there in Dubai. I was working out there briefly 07-08 and was tempted to buy an Evo IX out there but in those day the traffic used to be so bad that MT would not be a sensible option let alone buying a brand new car with no warranty!

I am looking to work out there quite soon so I was eagerly awaiting the launch prices and specs. I am torn between the AED 100k manual (with no HIDs, 16inch wheels, no climate control) or the AED 115k AT model which has nearly everything else but the Nur bodykit.

AED 15k is a lot of money which could be spent on some tasteful mods such as wheels, BRZ headlights and a USDM FR-S Instrument cluster (I am from the UK and I like to know how fast my speed is in MPH!)

Is it practical in 2012 to have a manual transmission daily driver in Dubai?

Dubai has progressed quite a bit since 2007-08. Lots of new roads around and its all very well planned. Plus roads around the hills near hatta and the ones shown in the vid in Fujairah are simply amazing to drive on.

Traffic is still bad though not as much as before and you can handle a manual car no problems. Still would go for the auto though, guess im lazy but manual cars just dont appeal to me any more. I have a motorcycle for visceral thrills. Plus I put as much as 40-50k miles a year on my cars so I need sthg im comfortable in.

anyway getting a black 86 myself, hopefully some time next month. Cant wait to run that baby all over the place

Of course. One does put on a LOT of miles in the UAE! UAQ to DXB was a normal daily commute for many of my colleagues! Do you think the D4S will cope with the high sulphur UAE fuel? Lexus/Toyota cars in the GCC havent had the D4S engines in the past (apart from the ISF)

I would be really looking forward to a UAE 86 meet some time soon!

I think it will be fine out here, most direct injection cars have been doing just fine out here. No reason why the 86 shouldnt either,

I am a little concerned about the summer however. It gets way up to 120+ degrees in the afternoons so it might not be the ideal time to wring out the little motor. But im sure the car will cope just fine with a bit of conservative driving during peak heat hours. Just have to invest in the best heat rejection tints out here (3m, huper optik nano-ceramics) to make sure were not bbq'd in traffic and we will be fine.

What I cant wait is for the late evening runs into the mountains in this thing, Jebel hafeet will be an absolute blast with a car that handles this well. Its the perfect daily driver for a single guy like myself, reliable, fun, cheap to maintain and (hopefully) easy to work on.

Black 86 AT without the body kit for me.

Brochure added. It seems that there will also be a high spec manual version too! Shame it has the red steering wheel in the high spec model...
