The Jedi were not supposed to support any one government or power. They were supposedly above that. They were also very hypocritical.
Mind you it wasn't until the prequels that we saw just how inept and useless they really were.

If you pay attention to the expanded universe, specifically the Clone Wars series, it sounds like they were following that ideal until the events preceding Episode I with the rise of Palpatine to power in the Galactic Senate. Combine that with the knowledge that Palpatine--the strongest Sith in a long time--was clouding the vision of the Jedi Council and manipulating them subtlety by putting them in situations where they were basically given no choice but to act aggressively (along with the hubris of the Council in ignoring it every time that Yoda said "the future is clouded by the Dark Side") and you can easily see why the fall of the order happened so quickly and easily.

Before the events of the prequels, they were actually very good at what they did, only intervening when totally necessary and rarely escalating to fighting. They were just monks with the capability of being warriors, not warriors who followed a monastic lifestyle.

And I am back...again!

Wife came down with acute appendicitis Thursday, and had it removed on Friday. She went back to work today (hooray Laparoscopic procedures). So I was a bit occupied taking care of the wife and kids over what turned out to be a long weekend.

Thankfully, all is well and getting back to normal. Took my car in this morning for 60k maintenance and HPFP replacement (being done under warranty, thank God, $1400 parts and labor), got a clean bill of health myself (yearly physical), and I get to drive around in a sweet-ass Camry until my car is done.

I have read both sides of the argument many times. I side with the group that considers them a bunch of bumbling elitist fools that didn't even follow their own rules.


Hell, they couldn't even be bothered with a babysitter for all the younglings.

So what did the Sith do that was so "bad" anyways? Seems to me that the only thing they ever did was fight the Jedi anyways. it's not like they were raping folks or stealing stuff. perhaps I'm missing something in the story but I just don't see what makes them necessarily the "bad guys" other than the label itself.

Neither side I'd inherently good or bad. The Jedi are pretentious and surprisingly intolerant. The Sith are in pursuit of personal power(primarily). The Sith aren't limited to "dark" powers as the Jedi limit themselves to "light" powers. It just happens that the dark side of the force can kind of make you crazy. It's like chasing PRs. Once you start lifting seriously you are driven to get bigger and stronger. People will do some weird stuff to get to the next level. Obviously the Jedi we opposed to genocide and whatnot buy I don't believe the Sith taught that. More likely they taught that you shouldn't let anything get in your way.

I'm certain the Sith did plenty that was "bad" but I don't believe they are inherently bad. It's just a different point of view. For instance you could learn to heal and go around healing people for personal wealth. I've never seen something saying you had to do evil all the time. After all, they maintained an kingdom for a long time before the war with the Jedi. If they were always out killing people, they would run out of an economy and soldiers

Little bit of everything? I don't know what flavour it's supposed to be. All I know is that they taste great for a couple handfuls, but then they start to get a bit too tangy

Yeah, I'm not sure what it is either... taste like it has a vinegar or some sour flavor a bit. I could eat a lil, but I couldn't finish a whole bag in one sitting
