Thumbs up Shopping for a Intake

I've had my BRZ for awhile now, slowly adding mods here and there! Im looking for a good air intake and inlet tubes. I was looking at Perrin, or Injen. I'm trying to stick to a red accent theme for my engine bay. Bottom links are the ones im looking at!

Air Intake- http://www.86speed.com/ft86-deals/ps...intake-system/

Inlet Tubes-http://www.86speed.com/performance/air-intake-systems/intake-kits/s6z12e4poredj-avo-turboworld-silicone-intake-system-subaru-brz-scion-fr-s/

Interior Sound Thingy-http://www.86speed.com/performance/air-intake-systems/intake-kits/s6z12e4p6redj-avo-turboworld-silicone-intake-system-subaru-brz-scion-fr-s/

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I'd recommend saving yourself a ton of money and just getting a drop in filter, then spending 2 bucks for a plug to delete the sound tube.

The only thing you'll read is drop in and inlet tube. This is parroted like a mantra online everywhere in regards to this far. However there are other options, read through this thread especially the last page and Grimmspeeds posts. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117068

Yeah you could do a perrin cold air. I only did it because i got angood deal on a very slightly used full set with tube and everything. Sucks pulling the bumper though. Dont ask me how many times i have cleaned my filter in the 8,000 miles i have owned it.

If i got anything else, it would most likely be grimspeed, maybe aem. Would have to be cali approved for me though. That said, even stock box with drop in and maybe that cool doohickey that crawford makes to trick the air sensor into thinking its a cold air?
I just might try that with a modified front scoop one of these days.

Admittedly, i do love the snort from the perrin cold air. Its all i have done for engine performance. Stock exhaust so the intake is the only way i can hear the engine while doing spirited driving.

So in short, read up but dont go blowing money on pricey new stuff just because its shiney.

I just recently did the Perrin inlet hose and drop in combo. Trust me, you really do feel a difference. Definitely saw better throttle response and my idle seems to be a lot smoother. Removing that sound tube was also a plus. I can finally have a Conversation in my car without yelling

The stock intake is already a highly engineered CAI. If Grimmspeed legitimately measures gains it may be due to a less restrictive filter element.

Want big gains from the airbox? Remove the filter altogether. Fuck it because racecar.

I have the Grimmspeed intake. Drives nice, trims are pretty good, sounds good but can heat soak a bit in hot stop start traffic or hot conditions. If you really want an intake and don't want to muck around rescaling your MAF then I would go with the Grimmspeed.

With the GrimmSpeed intake you don't have to adjust your front camber.

i bought the mishimoto one that required the removal of the front bumper. while it felt like it pulled harder and made very awesome sound I didn't want the hassle of doing the bumper thing every time I wanted to get to the filter. in my younger days I wouldn't have cared.
Now I just have the Mishimoto regular air box CAI and the silicone Intake tube. doesn't pull near as hard or make fun sounds.

If you want the easiest and cheapest thing just buy a better flowing drop in filter.
Idk how much of a performance advantage you would get from the CAI that just try to keep hot air out of the stock location (like the one I currently run) and it's not worth the money.
the ones that require the removal of the front bumper for install and maintenance do seem to work well enough you can feel/hear a difference but they are a pain in the ass for those of us who value their time more than a couple HP and nice intake sound.

The performance you gain from an aftermarket intake is due to the reduced weight of less cash in your pocket.
