Front and rear emblems on 2017 model year 86

I know that the 86 medallions on the fenders are stuck on by glue/tape. Is this the same method they use for front and rear emblems on the new 2017 year 86? I want to do an emblem swap. The new emblems I bought are peel and stick.

Want to make sure that the OEM silver ones on the car don't have prongs or some sort, so I can fill in the holes if needed.

Thanks!

Oh man taking off the OEM emblems was a pain in the ass. The are prongs both front and back, and the emblems are recessed, which makes taking them out even more difficult. I used Goo Gone and some flat kitchen tool wrapped in a cloth to pry them off

Do you have pictures of the OEM emblems removed? And the prongs? Just to clarify, you are talking about the 2017 model year, right?

I bought some aftermarket ones from FT86SF and they are just stick on emblems.

Thanks!

For the MY17, yes. I think my mistake was trying with a flathead screwdriver first. Even wrapped up in a rag it didn't work very well. Get like a kitchen spatula and it'll come off in seconds. I don't have any pics unfortunately, but the replacement Loden badges I used didn't have prongs. You don't need them. The double sided adhesive on the back of the badge is VERY strong. I've been through all kinds of weather, dozens of car washes.

EDIT: make sure you remove all adhesive residue before sticking the replacements on

remove toyota emblems from front and back

I'm not sure where I heard this but removing the emblem from the front or back requires you to break the prongs of the emblem. The prongs fall inside the hood.

Is this true? Does the pins need to be broken and how do you do this without damaging the hood?

If they break, where do they fall and does it rattle after that?

Can the emblem be put stuck back on without needing the pins?

I havent experienced any rattling. They're like soft plastic. Probably long gone. Looking at my old emblems, the pins broke on the front, but not the back (probably cause the rear emblem is smaller?). You don't need the pins, no. If you'd like to keep them intact though, the pins are on left and right side of the emblem.

use fishing line and work it around the emblem then just lift off. thats how i did mine. the pins are just to line it up... the new ones like you said just double sided tape. I changed mine from chrome to flat black front and back and just removed the side ones altogether.

I bought a set (gloss black) from Speed Factory. They have the pins just like OE and come pre-installed with 3M branded double sided tape.

I am waiting for a hot summer day to pull the car outside and may use a hair dryer to apply additional heat to make the original tape come off easier.

I'm surprised I have not seen anyone making custom billet aluminum CNC emblems, They seem popular with the Miata crowd.

The method on youtube may not be correct, hence why the questions here.

Thanks for responding! It's really hard to find emblems that are as large as what's on the hood. I saw that speed factory one and it looks cool to change the silver emblem to gloss black, which would look cool on a dark colored car.

I was looking for a batman emblem that would cover the holes. There are tons of stickers that will fit, but power washing the car might peal these right off. There's not too many actual emblems that may or may not cover the two holes.

The license plate is it suppose to be read as Scott or S-q-t "scuttie"?

Any idea why people had to break off the pins? Did you have to?

I guess the pins could have push on "captures" from the rear, but I doubt it. My guess is they are broken when pried up at an angle. The sun, blow dryer, fishing line or floss will help get the old emblem off. Sawing motion behind the emblem. The trick will be getting the floss/line behind the emblem between the pins. As stated before the pins allow installation at the factory to be a no brainer and allow perfect positioning without thought. The pins are even offset so the emblem can't be put on upside down.
