Since you have all the answers and can afford it apparently then just do it. Doesn't matter how good or bad the advice you're getting is.

My point was that do you really want to pay as much as it will cost you "just" (my "just", not yours) to get a manual transmission? There is no reason to make a marginally bad situation much worse, which is exactly what you would be doing by doing this.

But hey, its your life and your money, so if the answer is yes both the cost and the financial risk/hit are worth it to you, go for it.
No, I understand that it's an asinine move and would hurt in the long run once the initial excitement was over like what's happening now. We'll just wait and see what happens in the next year of ownership

Never missed a payment, never have been late and always pay more than the minimum payment. Dunno how this became "How much car can I afford?" thread. I think I was pretty straight forward with outlining what I was looking for in the OP but hey, welcome to the internet where everyone knows better than the last person

I interpreted your original post as a financial question so I gave you a financial answer. With that said, if you're comfortable rolling in the difference (or paying it off) to swap for an MT, and you can afford it, then why does this thread exist? If the money doesn't matter then you should just do it.

You asked for "Serious trade in questions" so I gave you a serious answer.

+1. Why is the OP even concerned about trade-in value if he can afford the car and then some? Good lord. Stop asking questions and start flexing your e-muscles when you don't like the answers given. Get off the intarweb!

32k for an FR-S?! Yikes. I don't know how old you are (assuming you're young since you have no credit history) but I would listen to the majority of the people here. You've already put 21,000 miles on the car in 9 months which is a lot to me and the fact that new cars depreciate like crazy once it leaves the lot...realistically your car is only worth 20k (kbb). I would ride it out for a couple of years when there's a larger market for used FR-S's/BRZs and switch cars then. In that case you won't take as big of a hit as you would now...

But yea, don't mod your car anymore if you're not planning on keeping it.

Had a thought, I wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper just to swap out the tranny.

Great suggestion. I would look into this first if your main reason is to go MT.

I actually agree with @Dadhawk 100% on this. Just because you can afford the payment, doesn't mean you can afford the car. I'll put my ideas on financing aside for the moment and agree that if you are THAT much flipped and had NOTHING to put down on the car you can't afford the car.

It seems that, at this point, the car is owning you.

Pay it down, sell it ASAP and get something you can actually afford. A cheap civic would be ideal for the moment (you can get an old one for $1000 and pay cash for it)....doesn't mean you have keep it for a long time, just long enough to get a good down payment and get you back into an 86. I bet you could get enough to get the BRZ out of the red the second it comes off the lot in less than a year of putting money aside with no car payment.

I wish you luck! Hopefully this all works out for the best :happy0180:

Honestly just wait like a year and wait for a part out and do a manual swap for like 3k, its better than taking 4-5k hit at a time. I kbb my car which is in perfect condition with 6k miles and it was at like 23.5k which is a massive hit. I see it this way instead of a 5k hit, spend 3k on a swap, and 2k on whatever you want. I dont understand why people are talking about someone's ability to afford the car, that wasn't the question here but if he should trade it in. None of us here have the right to tell other what they can and cant afford, that up to op; not us.

I think this would sell really well privately.
How about bringing it somewhere to see if anything can be done about the burns?
Than afterwards get a quote from a few dealers, than you'll have a better idea of what to sell it for.
