Too 99% of the people, the triple exhaust is cool and sporty (including myself). F40 and 488 had them so they're cool

Isn't the Type R like that because it effectively has 2 exhausts? When you are getting on it, one set of pipes is used to sound nice and when you are cruising on the highway, the other pipes are used to stay nice and muted rather than droning like my fucking TRD exhaust.

Why? Why? Why? Have one single exhaust. Bmw made that mistake already so no one else has to.

Other than that... looks great!

I would agree with you on everything you said, except this part:

what? 36000 for starting STi, 2000 for a set of pss10 and 2000 for a pair of recaros?

Brand new for brand new, Stock for stock, STi will spank this car in 90% of the driving situations.

I don't care what anyone says about how great the 86 handling is, it's simply not worth 43K unless there's a v8 in there. the interior is still utter shit.
Really? V8 is worth $43k? I mean, V8 in Japan?

Yeah, we're a bunch of Westerners trying to justify why Japan decided to sell this car over there for a premium.

Good luck trying to figure that out.

The goofy exhaust is the least of the trouble with the rear view of that car.

It's SUPPOSED to look like the pipe from a wastegate...on an F40...but the wastegate on this car is about 12 feet forward from the exhaust tip, so I seriously doubt it's actually related to wastegate functionality...

There's one parked near me. I'm jealous because it has so many more fake vents than I do. It's not a nice looking car.

It was explained in the Car & Driver review that "the trick three-outlet exhaust keeps droning and booming sounds to a minimum."

Excellent description of the looks. The 86 will get to this level before long:
"Helping the Type R attain that record pace are its many external vents, fins, and protruding air manipulators, including a massive wing perched just above the driver’s rearward line of sight. Most of these elements may be functional, but the visual effect is obnoxiously juvenile on the road. If a car could run on a slurry of Mountain Dew and Doritos, it would be this thing."

"Aggressive" has really come to mean but-ugly.

If I was living in Japan (Which I could with my PR) I would be in the same boat saying the same thing.

Want the analogous comparison? TRD FRS vs a WRX. similar pricing, USDM. Sure bring to the table all the "driving dynamics" comparisons. Dollar for dollar, WRX still wins 90% of driving conditions. Talk about off the line, acceleration, vehicle capacity, torque, power, virtually all performance metrics, stock for stock, dollar for dollar.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 86, I'd just never pay WRX or STi money for one.

Going back to the JDM land again, you know what else would destroy the 86 GR? Civic Type R.

Point is, you pay all that money and Toyota/subaru still refuse to give it more than a 3.5% increase from factory in paper which translates to nearly nothing in the real-world practical sense. where as if you spent thousands less, you can have a car that will be far superior in nearly all aspects and improvements can certainly be perceived.

Again, I feel it's bizzaro world, but to each their own. Hey, my buddy bought a pair of Pharell Ultra Boosts for $600 and now they go for $7000-$9000 on ebay. I guess I was the dumb one who didn't buy a pair. Seems like form > function these days.

No "seems" about it. I know it's a dead horse, but I blame the need for perceived "aggressiveness" for this stupid crap.

No rear fog light. Doesn't adhere to European ECE regulations.
Can be fixed with a red lens in one of the lower lamps, but then it won't be symmetric and thus vomit inducing.

So why is it pointless? Doesn't the whole key-less entry and push button start make life easier.

Fumbling about in the dark with a piece of metal that you need to insert into a hole as opposed to pressing a button.

I know which I prefer. (Although my wife would probably prefer the old school method.)

That aside I do agree that the back end bumper is ugly. In general I'm not a big fan of the backside on any of the twins. Would prefer normal lines without all the grey or black plastic, just make the whole rear bumper one color to match the rest of the vehicle.

Would someone like to do a Photoshop rear removing all the grey/back bits?

I love the front spoiler and the side skirts, but I imagine they'd be expensive. Got a price check for the triangular vent trim things as seen on the GR model and they're $690CAD shipped.
