FYI: Mileage left after the re-fuel light shows up ...

Our car has a gas tank of 13.2 gallon. Today I drove it 3-5 miles after the light is on, went to a gas station and put 11.6 gallon in. So there should be about 1.6 gallon left. With my gas mileage about 32 highway and 25 ish local, the minimum amount of mileage I have left is about 40 miles. Just FYI.

The manual states that the fuel light comes on when approximately 1.8 gallons are left in the tank, so you're close! I'm thinking the target was ~50 miles of not-WOT driving.

There's been a few threads about this, it definitely does come on prematurely, mine comes on when there is about 2.5-3 gallons left.

There's usually more capacity than the published volume. Connecting hoses plus some design margin in the tank will get you another gallon or so.

I have a Mini Cooper S with a published capacity of 13.2 gals and I've pumped in over 14 gallons many times.

I haven't discovered my BRZ's actual capacity yet...

You can go below the E and still have the car run fine. Granted its advised not to do this as the fuel wont be in contact with most of the pump to keep it cool. Most I have filled up in this car was 13.1 gallons. I call that scary.

I'm usually filling up with 10-11 gallons from the pump. The fuel light comes on way too early IMO.

Using Torque app, mine's come on consistently as soon as it hits drops below 2.5 gallons = so right at 2.4, the light comes on.

Before switching over to E85 from 93octane (and vice versa), I drive my car up & down the street at the E85 station trying to run my tank as low as possible. I went 64 miles once AFTER the light came on. When I filled up following that, I got exactly 13.01 gallons into my tank (filled up until the auto-shutoff, then filled up slowly until the pump cuts off again).

Curious, what's the objective?

Trying to get the most "pure" form of E85 or 93octane, for their respective tunes. It's ok to mix a tiny bit, but less is better.

I usually fill up the moment my needle goes below the quarter marker. Never seen the gas light and hoping to never do.

Checked this last time I filled up: ~1-2 miles after the light triggered, ~24MPH lifetime average. Filled up just over 10 gallons. You should EASILY be able to go 40 miles with the fuel light on, possibly upwards of 60.

I just tested this on Friday night. I drove a good 55 miles after the light came on and when I went to top off it stopped right at 13.152.
