So the problem is fixed!!!! It turns out the oil filter the last person put on was either incorrect or wasn't secured hence the ringing/grinding/whirring noise. Anyways after some extensive testing between 5,000-6,000 rpms, no more noise.

As for the guy talking about stupidity to those who can't read an oil dip stick, I'm sorry I'm not a genius, and don't know some of the basics even though I own a car however I think instead of calling people for not knowing something, you should at least try to educate instead of causing hate. I may not know how to read a dip stick but I can drive, and do many other things just fine

I think the real moral to this story is to either learn how to do it yourself properly, or just take it to the dealership so they don't fuck up. Honestly, after what has happened, I've read that alot of oil change places are shady or screw up all the time so from now on, just going to do it myself like how I wash my car

Well Subaru seems to have done this with the Power Steering fluid reservoir! I can't find it anywhere.

The same time RWD became some kind of mystery...

I think people forget that trucks are RWD. Or, maybe they just don't drive them.

RWD IN THE SNOW? ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!

I laughed for a full two minutes over this. Well played.

It's remotely located behind the panels in the trunk, next to the evap canister. They did that so it would be a dealer-service only item.

Same line worked for my 2003 Z4 and my 2009 GTI. I'm old and my jokes are older... Every time I'm working on my car with my son the auto tech, I ask if he could help his old dad find the power steering pump

You misunderstood. It's not stupid that you had the question. It's stupid that there were a couple of pages of argument about what it meant. If anything, I felt bad for you that they took a relatively simple question and turned it into a presidential debate.

Glad you found the issue.

Doing your own oil and filter changes is a good thing to learn, do a bit of research, get the right tools, equipment and oil(0W 20) and go for it!

It is not a presidential debate. The oil level after an oil change should be on the F mark. This is how it is done for decades in Subaru's and people saying that it doesn't matter either they don't have a Subaru or they never paid attention how is done or they don't do it correctly. The oil capacity (without filter) is 5.5 qt and if you are using 1 qt. bottles, then you have to use 6 bottles and have a surplus. I've never seen a serious mechanic filling with 5 qt. and saying it is OK for the oil level to be between the two dots. I don't think it is stupidity to insist on correct information and avoid misconceptions.

Woah, that's a potentially very serious mistake. Glad you discovered it and corrected it. Ironically it is almost impossible to screw up this simple task on a Subaru. They have one of the tidiest and most convenient oil filter locations ever.

Even Subaru acknowledges that you need to take extra care reading the dipstick on their engines. Also, Subaru engines are one of the few modern engines that still use significant quantities of oil. Not my FA20 but the similar FB20 has been known to use oil.

If your low pressure light comes on it it either too late or no problem anyway. Shutting the car down automatically is the dumbest idea yet.

So when exactly is the ultrasonic device supposed to measure the level? The level varies with engine speed and temperature.
I work on heavy equipment and what they do is have a red flashing light that gives you 30 seconds before the engine shuts down. Basically oil pressure, coolant temp, or coolant level it give you 30 seconds.

It may be difficult to incorporate this into our dash without complaints though.
