Sept. 2016 maybe.

The ND is a better more capable car. Its faster in a straight line and will out handle a 86. How mazda got the weight down as low as they did on a modern car is extraordinary. Yes, it has noticeably more body roll, but we all know how easily that is fixed. There is a reason the 86 was bumped down to DS from CS in AutoX after the ND came around. A ND Miata properly set up for STR is just stupid quick.

Don't get me wrong, I love my BRZ. I chose it over a WRX, STI, GT mustang, GTI, and so on... But if I didn't need a back seat I would definitely own a ND Miata.

Every time this car gets compared to the ND, nobody mentions tires. On equal tires, the 86 chops the Miata.

Realistically, they aren't even comparable cars. 50hp difference. 300b weight difference. tire difference. The list goes on.

Exactly. And not just the Subie suffers. Nobody bothers to list the tire make and model in any comparison test, even though everyone knows it is the single most important factor in handling.

But torque is very similar. With similar grade tires the BRZ would beat the Mazda every time. Suspension is better on the BRZ.

Wrong, the 2017 BRZ/86's are still in CS with the ND for all the improvements stated in the video. And the STX prepped BRZs are as fast if not a hair faster than the STR NDs..

And it blows my mind that they dont even mention it in the video, kind of upsetting really. How many times Randy P has stressed the importance of selecting a good tire, and how often they bring it up the tire in car reviews. Our tires, practically infamous by now, isnt even in the same performance category as the Miata's AND it still beat it on the track. I think that really speaks to the potential of the 86.

Exactly. If only a magazine would do a proper test of these two and the fiat 124. Test them all on Michelin PSS in their proper stock size. I'm willing to bet real money on the BRZ edging them out in the 0-60 and schooling them on the track.

they are on similar MP-ish tires

I am always amused how many people on this forum fight desperately so hard to not have the distinction of having the slowest sports car. You guys should be more like the miata guys and be happy with your fun without having to obsess over lap times.
