Instructed a student with a 2013 Gen Coupe 3.8 Track Edition with the 8 speed auto over the weekend at Road Atlanta.

The trans fluid overheated after 3 laps and it boiled out of the top relief valve and coated the exhaust in fluid and we were smoking like crazy down the back straight.

This happened every time unless we babied the transmission and shifted into high gear extra early and avoided high rpms. The car needs a transmission cooler badly. We Googled the problem trackside and saw that it's a common issue with the 8AT model. Pretty pathetic that Hyundai did not provision the "Track Edition" accordingly.

I ran my 8 speed 3.8 GT and Sebring with CHIN racing and noticed the temp issues, didnt quite go that badly for me though. LOL. Ive been saying since i got the car, its NOT a track car, its a Grand Touring Car. It doesnt do the track well but it is a wonderful long distance comfy cruiser with big power, tech and comfort. Probably why they did away with the "Track" designation for '14 and up and replaced it with Ultimate.
