Automatic transmissions are slowly but surely surpassing Manual transmissions. The Volkswagen Automatic DSG transmission is proving it by shifting faster than anyone ever could in a MT. On the other hand, you will never see turbo lag on an automatic transmission because you never have to lift off the throttle when upshifting....

I felt turbo lag on a 335i automatic. It was like an on and off switch. One minute the car is off the line slow then as soon as 3k rpms comes it explodes down the road like a beast. Torque is suppose to be felt much earlier on the damn engine though.

I can agree with you here. I had an E46 M with the SMG and was in love. The stock 6 speed felt a little sloppy to me.

The M/T in the FR-S/BR-Z's are very nice and I was impressed with my test drive, so I went M/T in mine.

They're definitely dying off. Some ATs are finally good and when every car company is fighting the PR battle to try and shave a tenth of a second off their 0-60 or add a couple of MPG, it's not all that surprising. Add that to the dwindling numbers of people who can even drive manual (which coincidentally, is one of the nice things about owning one -- no one asks to drive it), and it doesn't make sense for a lot of car companies to offer a manual option.

I love the experience of a MT, I hope enough people do also so that we can have a decent number of options in the future, but I understand those that want to go for an AT like they have in the twins. Whatever makes you happier, doesn't matter to me.

Not in a million years. This car was meant to be manual from the start.

If Subaru/Toyota made a DSG equipped 86, I'd trade in my manual in a heartbeat. I love manuals as much as the next hoon, but a properly set-up DSG is just better in every way. Lazy when you want to be, and wicked fast when you choose to be.

I doubt anyone with a manual will trade for the AT version. Only way I see that happening is if someone suffered an injury not allowing them to shift or use the clutch anymore. That or they get over ruled by their significant other who can't drive a MT.

Either way, your position sucks. You got a sports car but in a shitty AT version thus taking away the sports car aspect. I feel your pain and hope someone can help you out.

If I were you, I'd trade it in towards the manual. I mean shit you got the car for friggen free who cares if it costs a couple grand to get the version you actually enjoy owning and driving. Just my .02

I planned for FI and I have the thought it is easier for a manual to do the supporting mods. If the AT can reliably hold 300 hp driven hard i'd gladly trade for an AT. But until that can be proven I have the stick

I have a WR Blue BRZ Limited MT with 4k miles. I just don't need the car anymore and was considering selling it, but I'd consider a trade for an automatic. I would want some cash to offset any price difference though. PM me.
