Astounding. Really? I could say the same for your choosing to not comment on certain parts of my posts that do not attempt to discredit the video. However that's not astounding, it's beginning to be more like expected. Are you really this uptight?

"Sounds like it"? I guess if you read it that way. It very well also could sound like I am leaving MT's motivations open because we don't factually know their reasoning behind their muddled editorial approach or their choice of models.

Relax man, it's 8/6 day.

I only see two sentences not attacking the test, they are thanking one poster for saying "we're not fighting" and then saying other people are "handling this poorly"

Sorry, we've gotten away from the main point of the past 3+ pages, let me quote a post you've made that has riled me (in it's entirety so we don't lose the 'tone' you are trying to get across), and what I believe to be the crux of the disagreement:

The problem isn't so much that MT did this. The problem is that people buy into it.

Chances are (strongly) that the stock Miata which matches the stock BRZ in price is not "better by a slight margin", but actually slower by a slight margin. No objective person is going to buy the argument that adding mods like an LSD, uprated wheels, tires, aero, Bilstein shocks, a Brembo BBK don't make the Miata lap faster, handle and feel better. If a faster lap time is what some are using to determine "better" then they're being deceived, and maybe willfully so.
What I get from this is that you find the test deceitful primarily due to the option packages provided.

I cannot agree with that, both cars are "as-is" from the factory, showroom stock as designed to be sold to the public.

Yes, there are a million factors that can be pulled into play, there is no right or wrong answer with how someone enjoys their vehicle (as long as they don't hurt anyone), but a test is a test, two cars were compared and one came out on top.

I've praised the tests as being decent insight into both cars characteristics, you've called it "sloppy journalism". I'm the uptight one?

But then again, that could also be an LS3 powered Miata with the same money.
my point is that you wont pay suggested for the miata. using suggested when you pay suggested for a frs and not for a miata makes sense in a magazine comparison but its something to consider when jumping to conclusions.

I expected the Mx5 to be quicker since it is the new kid on the block. I also find it the most attractive compared to the older versions. But even though I love this new one it's a cool 2nd car at best while my 86 is my only car. I also like how Carlos Lago (the best reviewer from MT) favors the 86 more. 2 of them favored the 86 and 2 of them favored the Mx5. Both cars is the winner in my eyes compared to the onslaught of overweight crap with myriads of tech.

In terms of pricing in Canada, a Miata will cost $31,900 which is a bit higher then I thought it would be, but then I realized that that would be for the base GX model, without the 7" screen which means the interior would look like:

I understand the idea of a base model and that it would (like the Mazda 3 lower trim) be missing features other spec'ed out Miata's would have but... I can't stand that steering wheel missing a whole section of buttons on one side and that cheap radio in place of the navigation screen. But for that extra set of buttons and navigation, it's $35,300 which I wouldn't be able to justify getting myself, given the seating and trunk space it has.

Of course. If Twins are significantly faster than MX-5, it is apples to apples. If twins are barely faster than MX-5 it is no more apples to apples.

Before reveal, everyone thinks the MX-5 will not even try to match the Twins. After reveal, without even trying to match the twins but still matching them, now everyone says they expected it to be much faster.

The MX-5 hate on FT86Club is simply ridiculous. I can understand the hate, being that many want an MX-5 but a not a convertible, and thus have to pick up the inferior Twin with 2 extra useless seats that do nothing other than adding weight, the FWD weight distribution and so on...

Anybody that didn't see it coming is a fool. The SkyActiv engines are very torquey motors and it only has 2300 lbs to motivate vs the FA20 with a torque dip and 2750 lbs to move. Torque is what wins races a lot of times. I never hated on the new Mx5 and if I had the money I would own both as I have a fiance and a dog plus only ONE car.

Also what FWD weight distribution you speak of? FWD is typically 62/38 not 54/46 or 53/47. Hell you can call the twins inferior all you like but there will be folks who prefer it over the Mx5 like the video showed you. Both cars are winners and you guys just banter on senselessly

The test once again proved the flat-4 is the weakest link. Double wishbones > low CoG.

I'm impressed by the motortrend miata 0-60 test and 1/4 test though, mazda in our country rates it a 0-62mph time of 7.3.

That's a different track than Willow Springs. I thought that Tirerack and Motor Trend did a similar test with Randy Pobst and the results were not very dramatic with different tires on the FT86?
