Ideally it would both open up and slide, IMO. It should slide far enough back to allow access to the cupholders when they're placed in the forward position, and open hinged in the rear for full access to the console. The other alternative is for the lid to simply be removable; it should affix with magnets to facilitate easy removal and installation.

I really like it. I'd get one if I could install it with moulding tape rather than drilling. But as-is is fine too.

I don't eat or drink in my cars, so that's not an issue. I don't really care about having an armrest, either.

What I really want is covered storage. That way, I can keep my sunglasses, parking meter change, etc, in there without it be noticeable. As the car sits, the bin is useless to me.

It needs a slot for charging cords. I use my phone as a GPS unit and keep it plugged-in and charging.

Not sure if anyone brought this up (too many pages to go through), but have they considered having it hinge at the back so that instead of flipping towards the passenger side, it flips back towards the rear seats?

I believe the MkIV Jettas/Golfs had it setup that way.
This way, both driver and passenger can use the cupholders if necessary, and if the angle is right (i.e. parallel to the tilt of the seats), it wouldn't interfere with *cough* rear legroom?

Lol, already have been discussed. I like the idea of the armrest sliding back towards the rear seats better; exposing the cup holders up front... but that's just me.

lol, it was a very entertaining article, but it definitely did not say that the old Z did better. Actually, they said the old Z was a pretty much miserable, hot rattlebox that stunk of gasoline. Yes it drove well, but we've come a long way. Modern safety regulations necessitate a heavier car to fit all the air bags and such in. And modern drivers in their SUVs make me happy to have airbags and crumple zones, rather than tinfoil stretched over a skeleton for lightness.

The Z is amazing, but ancient. 86 is a fitting tribute and revival.
