I too am considering an s2000 vs. FR-S for a second car/garage queen to compliment my DD (2012 Elantra).

I personally like the styling of the s2000 - specifically the long hood and the spartan yet driver oriented interior.

If you want a convertible, get the S2K. If you want a coupe, get the FR-S. Simple as that.

It's funny that you mention the 2012 Elantra. I got rid of mine which was my daily driver for the FR-S.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're gonna have the highest-priced non-CR in the U.S. NADA says retail on this car is $25,825. Oh well, at that price I'd rather just get a BRZ.
They retailed at 38k. I remember seeing it at the auto show and the sticker made me laugh. Also at the dealerships I never saw one for 28k new. I have never seen a Honda drop 10k new not even a Accord. It could be that way in other states.

I've never met or heard of anyone paying MSRP for a CR. CRs were sitting in lots for over a year.

Florida area dealers were selling and advertising $28K all day long for non-AC equipped CRs. I even showed my local area Honda dealers in Dallas and they had no trouble matching those prices. It wasn't fiction.

I came very close to picking one up because of the price. I just couldn't do it in the end because I had already purchased a brand new Evo X about a couple months before. Plus we already had a AP1. It would've seen redundant having practically two of the same car.

The steering feel (lack there of), Florida roads and Florida heat made the car pretty pointless. I also had far higher expectations than the car delivered on

If I lived in TN, or NC, etc I'd probably still have the car.

Lack of steering feel was never a problem for me with my '01. And that's coming from a practically solid-mounted 240Z manual rack. The S2k did feel a bit "remote-controlly", but the responsiveness and precision of the system made up for it. It does what you tell it, no vagueness.

Perhaps the later ones had softer rack bushings? I know that '04+ had a slightly slower rack, 14.9 vs. AP1's 13.8.

Anyway, I bought mine in 2007 with 40k on the clock, now at 155k and ~22 or so track days with it. Still love it

The lack of steering feel isn't a problem when you have square tires... cuz the front will never wash out :p

This.

No one will ever convince me the S2000 had good steering feel. I've driven a bunch of them, AP1s, AP2s, AP2CRs, stock, modified, etc on the street, autocross and track. It was precise, absolutely, but that's it.

The S2000 isn't a bad car, I'm bitter because I expected so much more enjoyment out of mine and just never found it.

My AP1's steering feel is no worse than my FD. Neither as good as that in my old 91 S13. Both way better than my old '95 S14. Go figure... 240Z has WAY more feel, but necessarily much slower rack.

Honestly, given the reports of "no feel", I was pleasantly surprised at how good it did feel. It's not as bad as it can be made out to be, imo.

Someone sounds bitter. It's just really hard for me to take you seriously with the whole "no feel" barrage. When bulk of the cars listed on your profiles are Integras. I'm not insinuating you're making a comparison of the S2000 to your Integras. However, they must have the "feel" you're talking about since you own quite a few of them. So they must at least meet your criteria for good steering feel.

Yes, I've owned a Integra Type R too but I didn't think it's steering was any better or worse than the S2000's. This "feel" you speak of...what is it? When I think of non-responsive steering with very little feel, I think of cars like the Camry, Accord, Malibu, trucks, rental vehicles, etc.

In comparison to the FR-S, it isn't all that bad like you're making it out to be.
