Unfortunately 1 less FR-S on the road
This might come off as me just complaining and feeling sorry for myself, but I just need a place to vent.
So I unfortunately wrecked my FR-S on the freeway while on my way to work yesterday. I, also unfortunately, was the one that ended up rear ending another vehicle. But when it's raining out, and you're doing about 65-70mph in your lane (keep in mind, my lane is free flowing and I'm keeping up with traffic), and a box truck from backed up and almost completely stopped lane decides they have room and quickly bolts into your lane...I think it's suffice to say that my brakes didn't have enough time to slow me down fast enough to avoid hitting anything. I ended up swerving to the left to try avoid some of the impact, and hitting the rear driver-side bumper of the truck with my front passenger-side of the bumper. The car is currently at a collision center to be inspected. But both the tow truck driver and my insurance agent unofficially mentioned to me that the car will most likely be deemed a total loss. So yeah...I am really really really bummed out about the loss of my car...probably more bummed out than I should be, but I really loved that car! It was the first car I bought myself, and I definitely put in the extra time, money, and care to really make it my own (I know it looks generic, but it's distinguishable to me). It may sound super dramatic, but I really do feel like I've lost a small part of me. Another 86 might be in the plans down the line, but that won't be for a while. I told myself that my next car would be a more comfortable and practical ride...but damn, I'm really going to miss my FR-S. Anyways, thanks for listening! Cheers! Brian |

Hopefully you're not injured badly. Car can be fixed/replaced, your body can't. With that said, I can tell you modded your car from the pic. Like Sharkfin antenna & front lip. I know it's painful to see the car which you put your time, money and effort into... it's sucks... it's really sucks.

Sorry to hear about this. I'd be upset too.
Not to get your hopes up, but that looks fixable if that's the extent of the damage. If the strut perch isn't warped, my guess is $7-10k. Fender, door, hood, headlight, headlight supports, trim, glass, paint. Did airbags deploy? Edit:. Doh! And bumper cover. Also, that dude in the SUV is rubbernecking hardcore. Leaning forward and everything. |

I feel your pain, I was sideswiped and sustained 5k in damage. Your A pillar looks damaged and thats not good. If you have full coverage insurance maybe they cn total it out if it come to that and get yourself another ride.

Sorry for your loss. Go buy another one.
Repairable or not, for insurance purposes you have a 2013 worth around $11K. California is a total loss formula state, where it's totaled if the repair costs plus the salvage value is greater than the market value. I can't see any way the damage won't add up to enough to meet that threshold. If you file an insurance claim for it, they'll total it. Even though you rear-ended someone, I'd fight to make sure the truck driver's insurance pays for it. It's not always automatically your fault if you rear-end someone who takes your lane and then stops. |

I agree! Here in Ontario the truck driver would likely have been charged with Improper Lane Change. If the truck driver protested to much he might have got a Careless thrown in. (Don't ask how I know.) However, keeping up with traffic, especially in poor weather conditions, is a recipe for disaster. Most traffic flows above the posted limit no matter the situation. |
