Imo Toyota needs to spruce up their truck offerings a bit. Right now I'd buy a ford.

I know some people are complaining about the Tundra's mpg, and then the outdated powertrain of the 4Runner.

The 86 needs a proper refresh not a sunset. It's about that time too, since it's been out for 6 years.

It needs 20ish more hp and the tq-dip needs to be eliminated. That would be a refresh that mattered, oh.. and a better set of tires.

They could do this with a better header/exhaust system and remap or higher rev range. Or they could bump the displacement by 0.2. Either way, a meaningful refresh that is more than just putting lipstick on a pig, I think would generate new interest.

I wonder if the NSX and RX-7 owners constantly complained about this during the 90's.

The Tundra's pretty old by this point (same as the sequoia). It did get a major refresh not too long ago but its still largely the same truck as it was in 2007ish when it was first out in this iteration. The big 3 already has gone through like 3-4 redesigns since then.

4Runner is in a similar boat.

Tacoma was just redesigned not too long ago so its still at the top of its game.

I imagine its due to the TNGA not being fitted for Truck duty yet (word is the next gen of TNGA will include truck duty) somewhere around 2020 is what I read.

Does anyone else get a hankering for Tex-Mex food every time they read TNGA?
