How to remove SCION silk screen logo from Headunit

For those wondering how to remove the Scion logo from your headunit trim ring....

DIY at Own Risk

Acetone will remove this silk screened logo from the black plastic without discoloring the plastic. Takes a couple minutes wetting and rubbing, but it comes off relatively easily.

* Some members have reported that acetone has made the h/u trim ring appear faded, or scratched looking.

1 - Please make sure to thin down acetone with water if you have pure acetone - nail polish remover contains acetone but is generally too diluted already.

2 - make sure to use a cotton ball / q-tip / microfiber cloth / anything non abrasive to rub the silk screened logo off as to avoid marring the surface of the trim ring itself.

This has really complimented my Toyota rebadge, now to eliminate the Scion splash screen from the headunit boot up sequence..

Others are encouraged to post pics and feedback.

Thanks for the tip! Does anyone know if this will work on the 2013 BeSpoke headunit as well? It appears to have a gloss black finish.

this will work with all types of silk screened ink on plastic, just dont "scrub" too hard or you will scratch the plastic with whatever your using to "rub" the ink off. I used a microfiber cloth and didn't get any scratching. The plastic is hard, but i wouldn't use any abrasive or rough towels or anything as a matter of precaution.

I'm sure a q-tip or cotton ball or the like would be fine.

Make sure you thoroughly clean all the acetone residue too.

Do you think it will work on the factory 13' FRS base radio/headunit?

I tried to use acetone on my '13 frs and it left a pretty bad haze. Maybe I put too much pressure. Might try again with my '14.

Also +1 for changing the start up screen

I used very light / no pressure and a non abrasive microfiber cloth.
Also be sure to clean residue afterwards thoroughly..

Is the haze scratching, or is it residue from the logo smeared around? Maybe try thinning the acetone slightly if your using 100% and if the plastic looks to be fading from the solvent, not from scratching.

I don't have the car no more but I think the acetone was actually eating the plastic. Might be cause I used too much force. Yea I was using 100%. I'll try to thin it this time. Thanks
