they're all stick on to the existing cover that doesn't exist. hence why i wanted to know about the tab locations so i could make my own.

I'm sure you can get 'proper' replacement covers...and if not then you can get stick-on which can be stuck on any colour base fitting.....

Ok, update. I found a mirror from a wrecked frs in Ohio on eBay. $75. Snapped off the parts I needed. I'm freaking happy as hell. Guess I'll try to sell the rest of the mirror back on eBay.

e-bay was the source of my replacement after the wife-unit broke the PS while backing her car into the garage. No lack of color and price choices.
