Didn't they do that with the LF-A? Which, also really increased the price of the car, and they still were at negative with each unit sold???

This isn't a back to basics car, this is is supposed to be Alduin the World Eater.

I do recall that mule,

Also some people are forgetting this thing is sharing platform with the BMW Z5 so expect the price point to be around 55k/60k+ USD starting for the Supra. Likely to go as high as 80k If the current z4 is any indication of how pricing trends will be published in 2017 and 2018 for the z5 model.

FYI while im decamoing this thing and discovering lines hidden in the swirls...its definitely a chassis test on their latest model that the final product is going to be based on. Had this been maybe a powertrain or suspension test run, this "mule" would have looked totally different IMO.

My guess is ~$55k-$65k. Corvette / Jaguar F Type / M2 and M3 price ranges. It IS a Toyota after all, so anything higher than $65k might make me scratch my head at this one. But time will tell, and its just as likely it'll be more expensive than I thought. I mean Toyota did just recently do a "wtf" with the '17 86 base MSRP.

It's more of a prototype than a test mule.

For example the test mules for the NC and ND Miatas had the body work of RX-8s and previous gen Miatas.... and no camo.

Car companies only use camo to hide something that is at least close to the final design.

I was thinking the same. Like with the 2018 Lexus LS spy shots.

Keep in mind, the new Alfa Romeo Giulia completed development in just 2 years. Toyota wanted a new Supra for awhile now so it wouldn't surprise me if they were working on the car before BMW finally agreed to the project earlier this year. I won't assume that they were developing the platform in early 2015 or 2014, but based on the look of the prototype, to me, this is an almost complete car.

I'll wager another guess (easy to do) that we see the production car by the end of 2017 with a late 2018 delivery date.

I also stand by this thing not being a hybrid. I don't have a good example but I can't help but think we would see some indication that batteries are in play. Like external coolers or extra vents cut into the body. But I could be wrong.

Still... the car looks quite small by today's standards, off the shelf lexus TT V6, maybe an electronic rear-diff, basic interior > 40K. I recently started a new job and am doing some freelance stuff... I could definitely afford this thing at 40K in the year 2019... Aikido, don't ruin my dreams. I may weep.

The base model has been reported to use a 4 cylinder turbo, so I could see a base price under 50k being possible.

Now, will you be able to get one from the dealer without a 10k markup? Good luck.

I would be happy with a turbo-4. Less weight on the nose and when you consider the kind of power that they can extract from these engines (375hp in the A45 / 350 in the Focus RS). That would also work if they are looking for volume.

Aye... Markup. Good economy + Sports cars are super popular right now.

The GT350 and Focus RS should be attainable but demand just absolutely wipes out supply. A real bummer.

it's hard enough just to get a new 86 without markup or mono price lol hope this isn't the case for the new Supra. and that it doesn't end up in development hell like the NSX or LFA took FOREVER.

Everybody getting their panties in a wad for a rebadged BMW Z5, lol.

My money is on a BMW powertrain I4 base with I6 optional with Toyota bumpers and parts bin interior. It'll sit right where the Z4 sat from the power/weight to the price, ~$50k for the base to swing at the Boxster and ~$70k for the straight 6 and higher for M trims. Toyota will slide in a bit cheaper than bimmer due to lack interior accoutrements across the lineup.

Expect modern meh BMW handling characteristics and weight.

lol, what are the start and end dates of those 2 years? Because the car was unveiled in 2015, nearly 2 years ago. If that development was completed in 2015 why is the car not arriving until 2017? Or did they start developing it after it was unveiled?

The reality is it's Italian and all the stereotypes associated, they're still developing it and will never stop because the project is a hot mess, and if you handed me the keys I probably wouldn't let go of them ever.
