Wicked... Did they fail or you just took them off? I have heard several horror stories over on the sti forum about them imploding into the intake and cooking the motor. Safe to say my frs will never see one, but ya never know when these cars start selling for less used what small budget builders will turn to, its still happening on the stis. Id say its only a matter of time!

Never think of putting one on a new car. Didn't fail, motor was pulled few days ago and sold, engine was 700 dollars, turbo kit was 500 and the car ran with 500wheel cars and it wasn't tuned.

It was a fun project but it was cheaply done and didn't last long.

Wanted to resurrect this to see how everyone is doing now in terms of reliability of their boosted FT86. I'm at 22k and thinking of doing it around 30k (I don't drive it much so we're talking a few years).

6 months in, 9.5psi 297whp/225tq, about 5000 miles. ODO 23,500.
1 Auto-X
3 +2 hour drives

Only issues are:
High IAT's in traffic
I'd like to see lower coolant temps during traffic.

Long story short a $3000 student loan that I was told by my school would be posted to my student account didn't happen and I only had $1000 to go towards tuition so I used the money to return my car to NA and sell all my FI mods for around $3500. I was finally able to complete nursing school last December, get a job before graduation and get my nursing license and start working in February. My income has more than doubled so I decided to go FI again and had the PTuning turbo kit installed on my car in May.

I know there is some info spread around some of the build threads, but what about transmission? I've searched for the limits of the stock transmission on FI cars and it's pretty hard to find. You gotta change the clutch accordingly, sure, but what about everything else?

There have been several members with more than 400whp that shred the gears (usually it's 4th gear), so it's more than likely that a tranny swap is in question for those who want a 350+ whp DD, that will last
