Thoughts on painting the rear diffuser/bumper a gloss black

Howdy folks. As you all are aware of, there are various aftermarket rear valences that go over out existing rear bumper (Seibon, APR, Rocket Bunny). The black plastic portion of our rear bumper that has the exhaust tip cut-outs and contains a hole for the reverse lights is, IMO, cheap/plasticky looking. So, instead of buying some aftermarket thing to stick on top (or cutting our rear bumpers), what do you guys think about simply having a body shop sand the rear part of our bumpers that is unpainted plastic/pale black in color, and painting it over with a nice shiny gloss black. I think it would look nice and add a touch of class without having to buy aftermarket parts or cut your rear bumper.

Though it's an interesting idea, I'd love to see it just for the sake of curiosity.

I dunno just straight glossy black seems kinda plain.

What about having it painted Carbon Flash?

That'll be a lot of sanding, make sure they rid of all the texture.

I was thinking about doing this too, also the front mustache. I'm not a fan of the cheap textured look.

I haven't seen the diffuser painted.

It will look super tacky if you just paint over the textured plastic. So you'll need to have it basically filled in and smoothed out. Even then, most people concur that my front bumper looks good because my car is black. Done on anything else, it's too much of a contrast.

Maybe if you had a white BRZ and were already going the Panda Bear route, it might look aiight. IMO, it would generally look better as a smooth finish, but painted matte black. So it would still look plastic-y, but upper grade instead of lower grade.

It also took my shop a long time to do and they did it for free, so I have no clue how much it would cost. Wouldn't doubt it costing north of $500. If you were to go that route, I'd definitely invest in a front lip spoiler of some sort as a cheap investment towards protecting your bumper from getting replaced. Also, for that price, get it layered with clear bra protection film.

And have it painted properly where it's cured and thick. The first time mine was done, I was allowed to drive around with it to let it cure, and was supposed to come back to the shop. They didn't get me in until almost 6 months later, and by then the mustache looked like crap. So when they did it again they kept the car for a week, let it cure properly, and put clear bra on it. Still looks brand new after about 9 months!

Another option would be to wrap it? I'm pretty sure someone on the forum wrapped their mustache on a BRZ and it looked great (sorry can't find the post); but I think it would look good on the rear, although would be a challenging wrap considering the shapes around the exhaust cut-outs?

thanks for the input guys -- I'm going to my body shop on Monday to ask :P a wrap is an interesting idea also. If I end up having something done I'm definitely going to post pics :P
