I think a wide 17" with proper offsets will be the best.

What would be the best offset for performance do you guys think? Why do people want ridiculously big wheels like 18s or 19s? Aren't 17s usually preferred as a mix of looks and performance?

Negative offset doesn't always mean dumped, poked, and hellaflushed and all that malarky. You can have a negative offset wheel that fits just fine on the car. It really depends on the car. If you have hubs that sit way inboard of the fender, proper fitment will probably involve a negative offset wheel.

What people (I hope) mean is lower offset. They want the wheel to sit farther out, closer to the fender. It's a completely aesthetic choice. However, once you pass a certain point, your car starts to look like hammered dogshit and negative impacts handling.

This

Not This

However, what's just as bad is seeing a car lowered on stock wheels sitting an inch in from the fender.

It depends on the car and the factory rolling diameter. You take a big car with big wheel arches like the 5th Gen Camaro and put a set of 17s on it, it's going to look ridiculous and 17s won't fit over the brakes. The stock 20s on those still have a healthy amount of sidewall. But yes, they are heavier.

17s are usually a good balance on smaller cars. I think 17s are a good size for these cars. The 18s on this car aren't offensive, but I'd have to see more cars with more wheels and suspension setups before I actually pass judgment.

I'm personally in love with the Enkei PF01s
http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...t+Silver+Paint

and O.Z Alleggerita HLT's

Both 18's and both simple lightweight designs.

The 18 or 19 ? (They offer a 19 I believe)

On my BMW I have factory 18" wheel w/ runflats (staggered tires) to 19X10 and 19X8.5 wheels (w/o run flats) and they are lighter. It's all about process/manuf.
