Wheel hub bearing life expectancy?
Any insights regarding front &/or rear wheel hub durability in track driven 86’s using 200 tw tires and improved suspension with high camber (-5,-2)?
And, is there a hub which would be better than an OEM replacement?

I preemptively replaced my rears about 110K, need to check my fronts for slop at some point, at about 128K on those.

OEM worked best for me. I tried a couple off brands I’ve been through a handful of fronts and one rear.

I lost the front left at like 33k miles on the chassis so I replaced it with a Timken. That one lasted about ten events before making the tell-tale marbles in hollow can noise when spinning so I replaced it with a Centric. Centric has been fine for about 30 events now.
I got a good deal on OEM fronts so I currently carry an OEM front and an OEM rear as spares.

Thanks, and keep the info coming folks!
I’m only at ~86,000 kl (~53,000 miles) mostly DD so may be good for some time.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I'm at ~43k miles on a 2017 with mainly heavy autocross usage. Probably about 665 autocross runs from my records (about 110 events). 200TW tires, stock suspension, stock wheels/offset. Wheel bearings appear to be still just fine.

I’ve had a bad front sitting on my bench as a paperweight I have been meaning to cut in half for years. I am kind of curious what the bearing size is and if the grease just isn’t up to snuff. It seems like track cars kill them a lot faster.

The fronts on my 2017 only lasted one track season, 12 track days! Had them replaced under warranty Setup that year wasn't great, stock struts and lower springs combined with camber plates kind of over-lowered the front such that it was on the front bump stops just sitting. Tremendously overloaded the outside front in cornering...

I got 50k and 30+ track weekends on my 2013 before the fronts needed replacing. The 2020 only went 11k and maybe 8 weekends before a rear was done, and both fronts followed shortly after at about 15k and maybe 3 additional weekends. Friend went ~5 years and 40+ (?) weekends on a 2019 before needing a rear. So, it it's pretty variable.
I think with lots of camber, 200tw tires, and driving to the limits of the car -- 8 weekends is unexpectedly early, but 30 or 40 weekends is overly optimistic. Those were all OEM and street-driven as well as track. How many hard hits from curbs/potholes/etc each took is sort of impossible to know. |

Dropping wheels hard has been the number one killer of wheel bearings across track cars for me. Not the normal curb hits, the ones that make you wonder if half the car broke off.

Wheel bearings are not a normal replacement item for this platform, and strictly "as needed". It's not common without reason.
