That is curious...

That said, the same Esso fuel never turned the crickets on for me, hence the assertion about manufacturing problems.

I don't think we could ever get a consensus from even 10 people on here as to what does and does not cause them in their car. The closest thing to a pattern I could ever figure out is that a majority seem to agree that it only happens with fuels with a certain ethanol level. Even then there are people that say they have no issues at all. If it was a manufacturing problem we should be able to see a definitive pattern and it would be more consistently "I have" or "I don't have" not "well sometimes I do and sometimes I don't".
Easy to see how, if you have never had them, it can be confusing when we say they come and go depending on the fuel we use but I can literally predict (within a few minutes) when they will show up if I use certain gas.

Totally agree. Ethanol-mix fuels have a far lower lubricity (for some reason) than standard gasoline. The lower lubricity fuels, at least with my vehicle and observation, cause the chirping.

I got the chirps within the first 100 miles. It didn't matter what brand of gas I used, I still got chirps. I haven't tried ethanol free, so I can't confirm. If this is a true fix, I'd get this done asap.

Meanwhile I just roll around mean-mugging everybody and think to myself that no one wants me to release my army of crickets. Fear my crickets.

My wife had a 76 Pacer with a high whine from a vacuum leak I could never find. People used to stare at her and she would stare them right down. One day I told her to just say it was a supercharger whine to anybody she could say something to and suddenly half the people that stared were impressed (the guys at any rate).

Maybe we can do the same with the crickets.

If you want to join the People's Front of Judea, you have to really hate the Romans.

And yet there are people who swear E85 makes the crickets go away...

I just deal with them.
