Had a WRX, drove several STIs, an old 2.5RS Impreza and none has as much vibration in higher rpm than the BRZ.

I've owned 7 AE86s and never had one that didn't have "character" by way of rattles, vibration or squeaks. Even with the delrin shifter bushing the gear lever still vibrates. TRD header hugs so close to the frame rail that if you don't hammer the contact spot for clearance, your feet will never stop vibrating.

My hatch is sitting on t3 coils/agx and trd rear 7ks. It's stiff, squeaky, noisy and uncomfortable. But it drives fantastic.

I've had 2 86s and if you don't modify it too much it is very smooth.

I have a shifter rattle, as in it rattles.

Never thought of taking the shift knob off (duh) so I did today and the sound seemed to almost go away while I was driving. Usually it makes a rattling noise than increases as I accelerate.

When I stuck the shift knob back on though it rattled again, no matter how much I tightened it. Tightened it good, up until I was worried about wrenching the shift level off.

Spare Evo shift knob wouldn't fit so I might try and pick up something cheap just to see if the rattle goes away any.

Oddly though, even with the shift knob off I was hearing rattles from the shift lever when revving in neutral.

Vibration from the engine is no big deal to me and the car drives just fine apart from the annoying rattling noise - smooth shifts, no grinding, nothing feels amiss, yet it rattles. Gah.

Weird I know, but I can hear it.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

I've noticed a rattle coming from my shifter, but it appears to stop if I put my hand on the plastic ring used to go into reverse. This leads me to believe that it's not the shift knob making the noise, but rather it's the plastic ring.

Anyone find this to be the case in their car? Any fixes?

And what a great feel that is!!

at nearly 8000 miles my shifter is smooth(er) again. Much better than it was a few thousand miles ago.
God I LOVE this car!

i'm pretty sure every car has a vibrating shifter, this seems like such a subjective topic of observation because one person's "huge problem" is another person's "car trait," the shifter in my brz rattles from time to time but hell, it's a car and there are a lot of moving parts, one thing's for sure, the car itself doesn't rattle like inline 4s, and i'm thankful for that.

Mine vibrates somewhat crazily when it's in neutral, no noise so doesn't bother me.

I solved the shifter rattle. The rattle was coming from the silver plastic ring around the base of the shift knob. It's not fit on there very snug so it will rattle during acceleration.

I took off the shift knob, turned it upside down and then put liquid nails in between the silver ring and the inside of the shift knob. Let it dry over night and then re-installed in the morning. No more rattle.
