Ok thank you for your that. I'll definitely keep it in mind. Any recommended clutch?

The stock clutch can handle roughly 220wtq. I'd base clutch replacement on this figure instead of boost number. I have been running my stock clutch with the 8psi actuator for 15,000 miles with no noticeable slippage. (I don't abuse it either)

Does anybody feel a thump when starting their vehicle? Every time I start my vehicle, I notice a thump from the passenger side. I'm hoping it's just a wheel bushing from when oil got in there due to a bad oil leak coming out of the AVO cam plate pump.

I thought mine was fine until I put it in 5th gear and floored it at around 3-4k rpm and it started slipping.

As for clutch recommendations, I'm running an exedy stage 1 and have no complaints.

The first thing I would check is the overpipe. Do you have an aftermarket one?

Yeah I would check your pipes it could be the initial "cold start" making them radle and cause it to make a noise. Is it a continuous noise until you start driving or as soon as you turn it on and it does a single thump sound?

I've got an AT so I will follow @BRZrangers build closely, any other advice for a turbo noob? :P
Thanks for the mention, I have been busy and haven't had time to be active on the forum. My BRZ is at about 25k miles right now, so I've had the turbo on for almost 20k miles. I have had no problems with the turbo and it has run very well. I believe this is in part due to @AVOturboworld's excellent build quality and @Drift-Office's excellent install, tuning and regular maintenance.

Yes, sadly, I have no friends. So who's going to start up my car while I check it

Check the pipe to see if it's obvious that it's hitting something. If not, wedge a rag in there and start it to see if it still makes the noise on startup.

Here's another public service announcement that I hope will save someone else hours/days of frustration

Shortly after installing the 3" downpipe/overpipe/frontpipe, I developed an exhaust leak. As it turns out, it was at the downpipe/overpipe flange and then overpipe/frontpipe flange. After tightening everything down again, it seemed like the overpipe was at a VERY slight angle causing the 2 flanges to not sit flush. The front pipe nor the down pipe have any forward and backward play, only up and down, so the overpipe being a couple mm too short is a bit of a problem. I used all kinds of torque pattern combinations to try and have it pull everything together evenly, but eventually it would leak again due to pulling apart. I also put it up on a hoist at work and loosened every exhaust bolt in the system (down pipe to catback) and re-tightened everything in order. Still no go!

The solution!

I ended up using 2x vibrant gaskets per flange to "lengthen" the overpipe enough to create a consistent contact patch between the two joint areas. The exhaust is now dead silent.

Just to make sure I never have to go down there again for that reason, I sandwiched permatex copper between the two gaskets and then again on the flange/gasket areas as well. I figure it would give it another layer of flexibility in thickness if needed once it warms up.

I'm not saying you have to do this, I'm just saying that this was my experience. The clearances are VERY tight and as a result, you need to get it just right when installing.

I hope this saves someone a bit of frustration

Is someone using the AVO Kit in combination with an Exedy stage 1 clutch kit? Any hints on how much torque this clutch could handle? It's rated for 254 TQ@ the flywheel but since the OEM clutch handles already roughly 220 TQ this seems to be a very conservative number.

Any suggestion for a blow-off valve which would fit directly onto the AVO kit and could be set up to vent in to atmosphere? I'm missing the blow-off whistle of my STI

I'm using the exedy stage 1 and it's fine. It's known to hold significantly more than the stated 250wtq, but I'm sure the service life will be cut down. You should take a look at the new revision Stage 2 Exedy. From what i've read, it has the same drivability characteristics as the Stage 1 but is rated for more power.

Ok thx for sharing your experience. I've installed the stage 1 clutch already a few weeks ago and I'm very satisfied at the moment. But I was thinking if I would need a new clutch, if i would go for more power/torque. 300whp would be nice. Currently I'm at ~300 hp
