Still Leaking?
I was measuring my car today to see how low I can go before I hit the ground and noticed ANOTHER pool of that liquid under my car.
It's coming out of that hole in the skid-plate, so honestly it could be from like, anywhere in the engine area. My last oil change was done by the Toyota/Scion dealership, and was 3,700 miles ago. It seems to only appear if I'm pushing my car pretty hard the night before. Any ideas? |

Did you check to see if the oil bolt is in correctly?
Check the dipstick for overflow? Check the oil filer for leaking? Check the area where you put oil in the car? Why is the car not back at the dealership yet?????

Check the oil drain plug bolt. The bolt could be loose or isnt sealing. Some places dont always eplace the gasket/bolt whixh can lead to seating issues. The oil is more likely to come through at higher temps due to viscosity.

Drain plug is probably loose. "That liquid" is most certainly motor oil.

Yeah, just took a video under the car and the drain plug is literally soaked. Off to the dealer.

Quick question, does the fact that I have a muffler delete change anything? Like do you think they'll question me on it?

You know, I've been looking into this, and I'm not sure that multigrade oil is less viscous at high temp. Take 0W-20 oil. The cold viscosity ("0W", "W" stands for "winter") is lower than the hot viscosity ("20"). Makes me think that most of the leaking happens when parked. But most of the dripping probably happens on the road with all the vibration and bumping causing the bubble of oil to break free and fall.

Just an update for everyone, I went to the dealer. When they had done the initial oil change they over-tightened the drain plug and cracked it. They replaced it + did a free oil change.

Cracked the PLUG? It's more likely to damage the threads on the inside of the pan.

I'm assuming THEY told you they cracked the plug?
Possibilities: Not tighten enough; no crush washer; used old crush washer; used two crush washers; damaged oil pan. Cracking the plug would be nigh impossible methinks. |

Dealership will say anything they think they might get away with... if you don't want to be fed stories you need to appear like you know more about cars... or just have more common sense, than they do.
