Toyota to suspend production due to quakes....

Ouch. Hope it does not get worse.

Edit for the stupid: I'm hoping the geological situation does not get worse, not the car part supply.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/toyota-sto...--finance.html

By Naomi Tajitsu and Makiko Yamazaki

TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp <7203.T>, the world's biggest-selling automaker, said on Sunday it would suspend much of its production at plants across Japan this week after earthquakes in the country's south led to a shortage of parts, while some other manufacturers extended stoppages due to damage to factories.

The earthquakes on Thursday and Saturday, which killed at least 41 people, reflected the vulnerability of Japanese companies to supply chain disruptions caused by natural disasters, and also highlighted the "just in time" philosophy pioneered by Toyota and followed by many others.

Companies had made efforts to address these problems after a 2011 earthquake and tsunami, which led to a nuclear disaster and nearly 20,000 deaths, badly dented output. The way that companies deal with the impact of the latest quakes will likely show how robust these changes have been.

Given that the twins are instead manufactured at Subaru's Gunma plant, how did Subaru respond to the recent earthquake in Japan? Did they temporarily halt production as well?

On a side note, my condolences are with the people of Japan.

Yea it's pretty bad, these large magnitude earthquakes hitting them hard in the past couple of years. But they always come back, they are one of the few countries that can recover super quickly, they have that mentality.

Also there is no info on the subaru plant status, but Honda and Sony have stopped production I believe. Also Aisin was hit quite hard but they have plans for this sort of scenario to move to other locations but auto fr-s may be effected:

I'd hate to think someone is stupid enough to interpret my post as being concerned about mere car parts, but it sure is looking that way, no?

For the record OP copy pasted the beginning part of the article so it would be easier to read, they are the ones that come across as super worried about the supply chain

You should italicize and bold the parts of the article you copy pasted into the post next time for clarity and so nothing gets misconstrued

I thought it was perfectly understandable. But I have been drinking kerosene with a lead swizzle stick for a few days. The heck is wrong with everyone else?

I for sure didn't take it as the OP more worried about parts. Kinda have to read between the lines on forum posts. People's thoughts are sometimes hard to figure out over text rather than face to face.

It's a shame for the Japanese people. Such a peaceful people. Hope they don't get rocked again but it seems it is inevitable.

This is mostly being reported as a business article. So yes, car parts and economy is relevant.

Can't have a recovery if you can't pay for it, and stoppage of production for one of the largest companies in Japan deals a blow to everything, including getting their shit straight.

The drinking part is what I'm interested in. Please tell me more about kerosene and swizzle sticks. (Much to the chagrin of @Tcoat)
