Got the wrong door

wasn't sure where to put this so if MODs decide it needs to be somewhere else by all means move it.

so long story short my car got vandalized and the insurance co decided to give me a used door. welp turns out that this door is from a Premium and not a Limited(what I have). as a result I can't open the passenger door like I do the driver side by just putting my hand in the handle aka not using the key fob.

so what I'm looking for here is to figure out what components need to come out of the old door and get swapped into the new one in order to get it to work? a friend of mine owns the shop that did the work so he kept the old door just in case.

Would think it is just the handle assembly but will try to pull up the parts list when I get a few minutes. Should be pretty straight forward.

Either way depending how long ago this happened could you not just notify the insurance company and have them remedy the fuck up?

Ironically I just had a nightmare last night about my car getting hit and having to deal with the insurance company to get it repaired...

it happened on 07/13. it took the insurance co a week to look at it, a week to get the door and almost a week to fix since they didn't get the door until late on a Friday anyways. I just got the car back yesterday and figured this out last night. I will be cussing out the insurance company shortly.

Make them fix it. The insurance company has an obligation to get your car repaired to its condition before the collision, and that doesn't include installing the wrong door. The shop should have figured that out before even installing the door, and they should have sent it back.

They'll order another door. It'll be an inconvenience for you, so don't hesitate to raise a little hell. Personally, I would demand a rental for the additional days the car is out of service.

that's basically what I will be doing in a less than polite manner. called and left a message. I will be calling back every hour until I get satisfaction.

As nice as it feels to let off steam when your upset....you catch more flys with honey then then vinegar.

Related to your current issue though it pays to play nice and be as polite as possible for as long as possible before switching to the nasty gear. Because once you make that switch you are running out of cards to play. Just some food for thought from someone who has learned this the hard way.

You think the insurance company got you a used door? Like there was a claims guy out at the "U-Pull-it" junkyard loading up parts for you? It would be surprising to me if that's how your insurance company works. Every insurance company I've dealt with is just the payer on the work and the body shop sources the parts.

My guess is the body shop got you cheap used parts and billed the insurance company for OEM prices.

Agreed. I would be surprised if the insurance company sourced a used door. Did you take it a shop of their choosing?

Any minor damage in the past that I have had, I always choose who I take my car to and request new OEM and my insurance takes care of it. I have Allstate.

I am 100% certain they got a used door. they told me that's what they were doing. they assured me that it was in perfect shape which it was not as it needed some PDR. I looked up the vin# on the door and found the car wrecked at an auction.

the shop I took it to is owned by a close friend of mine that I've known for almost 20 years. he didn't want to do that either but the insurance wouldn't budge and I didn't want to wait anymore. it already took me 27 days to get my car back and it's still not right.

really other than the door not having the jeyless option it really looks good and my car is flawless looking now. it's just annoying and I plan on selling it next year so I don't want something like this screwing it all up.

Insurance works for you not the other way around. Unless they have something written into your policy stating other wise they can not force you to use their shop or force you to use any parts you do not agree to.

Thats how it works here in Minnesota anyway.

They will need the door handle, and harness from the original door swapped into the new one.
