My magnet technique that doesn't involve bumper removal has been on the car about a month now with zero problems.

Great write up on this. I got mine installed today and it works fantastic! Thanks for this ingenious way of getting our plate on!

What happens when you remove the license plate - don't the magnets behind the bumper fall out?

The magnets hold the license plate mounting bracket to the bumper. You can remove the plate from the bracket and leave the bracket on the car. Yes, if you remove the bracket the magnets behind the bumper would fall out. Not sure what about that concerns you, though.

It's a good idea, but it makes the solution less flexible. If the only concern is avoiding holes in your bumper, then sure, your solution works well. But some of us like to install/remove the bracket as necessary, which would not be ideal with your method.

It takes seconds to install and remove. This is simply not an issue.

Well, it's definitely an option for those who don't want to remove the bumper. For me, I'd rather have the on-off convenience of not having to use loose magnets, as i take the plate on and off often enough.
Take a vid and see how long it really takes - i'm curious.

Well I don't have a video but it's really easy to pop off and back on again. Removing the bumper was the "hardest" part aka the sidemarkers. (Who the hell designed those?) Getting the magnets in place and everything else after that was a piece of cake.

Came her for this thread!! Great idea and write-up.

I did this on my wife's new 2017 86. Easy to do. Side marker lights weren't that hard given the amount of write-ups on the web for their removal. I'd hate to be the first guy that tried it. I would have broken them for sure!

Put the finishing touches on my '15 FR-S bracket today! I'll update if it falls off--no hooks here. Suggestions?

Well, it's been almost 5 years since I posted this DIY and it hasn't fallen off yet

Thanks for the write-up! I just completed this last night and used 3M automotive attachment tape to attach the magnets to the bumper. I'm thinking this tape should be one of the best options since it is designed for hot, cold, vibrations, and moisture.
