I thought the video was fun! I was just hating on Jay's skills since the camera was there and all to capture it. The video did what it was supposed to do: Entertain.
Thumbs up, cheers, cigars all around and all that. |

Drifting (IMHO) is to motorsport as dressage is to horse racing. More of an art form, an automotive ballet if you like, than anything else.

[QUOTE=dsp4;490222]Most people (including myself) don't see the point of owning so many cars without being able to drive them properly. That shows a lack of passion, maybe laziness. I guess some would say he doesn't truly deserves what his money lets him buy.
That is the most ignorant thing I've heard in a while. Anyways, I think it's great someone can love the car culture so much even without having the most impressive skills. He even picks different cars from his garage to go to work in. |

Stop hatin' on the man. If you haven't driven a RHD vehicle, it takes a couple hours to get use to that perspective.

Jay Leno is definitely a gearhead much more than he is a driver. Too bad; you'd think that with all the money he spends on cars he'd take the time to learn how to really get the most out of them. Oh well, I still got a lot of respect for the guy. He has a true passion for all wheeled things, something not everyone can claim.

Rather than bash his driving skill, I think we should all be thankful for someone like Jay Leno. Rather than cruising the streets of Los Angeles in only exotic cars (he doesn't even own a Ferrari), Jay Leno has a love and passion for ALL cars. He was one, if not the first to review and rep the Scion FRS on Jay Leno's Garage. I don't know any other celebrity of his caliber that has a love and respect for all types of vehicles. A true gear head. He also DRIVES all the cars he owns, rather than keeping them hidden in the garages like many garage queens. He is 60 years old, and last I checked, who put up the rule that you have to be able to drive to love cars? Also, some people see cars as art.
Besides, he didn't even say he can drive, and often admits he CAN'T drive. Half the people here bashing him probably have never even seen the track, let alone a skid pad. Look at the guy, he is having a whole lot of fun in a car we own, give him a break... Driving is not always about skill, but FUN. Simply drifting does not classify anyone as a skilled driver. I may be wrong, but Kimi Raikkonen wasn't the best WRC driver... but a pretty AWESOME F1 Driver. Quote:
RHD - Although I don't think it has anything to do with his driving skill (same result if he were driving a LHD), and having done drift/gymkhana events in Japan before, it does take a bit getting use to (maybe not for those who have a huge ego). Even on the street in my Fairlady I find myself missing 2nd gear sometimes.

I bet you there are cars that he has that you wouldn't be able to drive, yet he can drive them fine.

Money doesn't buy skill, time buys skill, although money can buy time.
Jay is more of a collector, not a racer, that's his thing. He didn't do a good job drifting, but he tried, and on top of that he tried while sitting next to the drift king. I'd love to be in his position, even if i sucked |

Quite a childish mindset going on here. I'm willing to bet that well over half of the FRZ's that are going to be purchased over the next few years will NOT be taken to the track or driven by an enthusiast. Does that make them undeserving of the car? I'm sure everyone here on the forums is a bonafide race car driver and is the best at everything they do. |

I thought the definition of driving a car properly was getting from point A to B without having an accident or breaking any major traffic laws.H He doesn't even try to claim that he is good. To say he isn't a gear head because of this would be irrational. He knows more about 1920s steam cars than you do. You probably don't even know how to start one. Jay Leno does because he owns several. They are cars too so does that mean you aren't a gear head because you can't drive them? Just because cars can go fast doesn't mean that they aren't good for other things too. So thank you Jay, for leading by example. Even if your example very clearly and concisely told us what not to do while attempting to drift. |
