Would I be fine going 225s for a couple of TMP lap days and mostly daily driving? Going 235 or 245, what would I be gaining over the 225s and sacrificing in terms of daily driving?
Is the RS3 an adequate street tire? |

225's are plenty fine, going wider means wanting wider wheels, and more rolling resistance.
What do you define as an adequate street tire? I've daily driven ZII's, RS3's and AD08R's, but depending on your tolerance for tire noise, ride harshness and tire life you might not be as happy. Typically if you're doing more street driving and just one or two track days a year, you'll be happier with something like Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

While I don't have a FRZ, I do have RS3s and spent at least 1 track day, multiple autocrosses AND one loooong drive to Cabot Trail and back again last year.
Still on them for 4 track days and likely will have at least another 3 more out of them before they die. I drive around town with them too. Feels fine, noise isn't THAT bad.

If you're only driving it on the street, they're a waste. They need heat to get optimal grip, make more noise, and wear faster than other better pure street tire options. Even if you're going to do a track day or two, I'd go with something that will last longer over a track/EHP tire.
I daily drove my RS3's, but also did about 10 track days that summer. They were totally worn out after one summer. Another thing to consider is how little grip most EHP tires will have on cooler wet days. 10* and heavy rain and they'll have less grip than an average all season tire.

@Moue If you're just getting your toes wet w/ track days, I suggest just running w/ the stock tires. I still use my oem tires from 2013 on the street. It's been through numerous track days and 2 seasons of autocross. You're mileage might vary but I'm still ok w/ my tires. If you're doing mostly daily, I suggest avoiding extreme performance tires and going w/ MPSS instead. They really struggle with cold temps and heavy rain.

^^ 1000% this as well. If you want to learn to be a better driver, leave the stock tires on. Super sticky tires will mask many mistakes and bad habits.

Stock. Definitely another second in there. First corner can be cleaner and the last corner I need to work on rotating the car to have a better exit. Overall quite satisfied. I need more front grip. Camber bolts will be going on to help out a bit and some new tires. Currently using Yokohama Advan Sports with maybe 6/32nd on them. Last edited by interna; 09-08-2017 at 02:52 PM. |

Yup. Tony is supercharged. I went this past Monday and ran 1:22.47 on NA. Pretty happy considering it's my first time out this year and also running different tires. Still have tons to improve on!
