Our first 86DRIVE of the summer season is in the books, and it was a great day. About 11 of us met up at the starting point in Livermore and cruised on over on Mines Rd to the newly remodeled Junction Bar & Grill. For most of us it was the first time there in a while and we’re glad to see it open again and still serving great food. Definitely recommend visiting them on a weekend and enjoying a nice meal or drink out on their front yard area (nicely equipped with umbrellas for shade now) or in their new dining room! After a relaxing lunch we hit the road again, going up and over Mt. Hamilton to San Jose. It had also been a while since I had driven this stretch of road, and while it was still pretty gravelly, it wasn’t as bad as before and I am hopeful that more summer traffic will eventually clear the road some more. We stopped at the Lick Observatory for a break and some photos, and then continued our way down and back into civilization. Hope everyone who came had a fun drive, we handed out 86DRIVE cards to everyone and they all earned their first 86DRIVE STAR of the season, good for raffle tickets at the End of Summer meet that we will be holding at, well, the end of summer! Be sure to come out and join us this summer for some of these 86DRIVES, we look forward to driving with you.

A few more photos available over at 86DRIVE.

We'll definitely plan to do drives this summer all over the Bay Area, wherever there are great roads. Our past drives included going up to Marin and there are also some great routes around the Peninsula area. But I really encourage folks to come out and join us for these drives trust me it will be worth it for the drive, the company, and the scenery.

In fact I really appreciate any input from those interested in joining us this summer, what kind of drives would you like to see more of? Early morning coastal drives? Backroad forest drives with a lunch destination somewhere? Evening drives with a stop somewhere to see the sunset. Please don't say midnight touge haha.

For next Saturday... I am thinking an earlier morning drive somewhere but not sure where. I have to be back in Hayward by noon or so for a BBQ (and I will have more details about that for anyone else interested in joining, it's put on by my friends in the MR2 club and all are welcome to join) but really we could get an early start and go anywhere. My initial thought was to do something in the East Bay like Sierra-Felter-Calaveras-Niles-Palomares-Redwood-Skyline. Essentially all the East Bay roads we didn't do today haha. But the other thought was to do something in the Peninsula or coastal mountains. Like Devil's Slide down to Pescadero on Hwy 1, or Breakfast at Alice's then Skyline or La Honda to the coast. Let me know what you guys think!

And further down the line... start thinking about when we want to do the annual Gizdich Ranch Pie Run down to Watsonville.

Sounds like we are meeting at Rudy's @PMok. There is a Peets right down the street for beforehand.

nope, I had a different route in mind... start south in Sunol and work our way up through the East Bay... kind of a reverse version of Drew's route but ending by going down Skyline. (Originally thought of starting even further down at Sierra-Felter-Calaveras, but that might be too much)

Red face oooops

Doh! Sorry guys I am gonna have to change it up a little. I was just "reminded" that I have to pick my wife and friend up from the airport early Saturday. So an early start will be out of the question for me. We can either have someone else lead the run in my absence ( @BigFatFlip @finch1750 @Clipdat or anyone else familiar with the routes?) or have a later start, say 9:30AM. Or as a 3rd option, do the drive on Sunday morning instead. What do you guys say?

I work Sunday's now

But it's ok if you guys go Sunday lol.

The more drives I go on..the less shit I get done..as I usually just wanna go home after and sit on couch and drink beer.
Stuff is stacking up around house.......
