Racing skills directly impact daily driving. While I don't think left foot braking is ideal (as it's simply uncomfortable as cars aren't set up for it), it's fine so long as you've trained yourself to do it.

Yes, an error by the driver doesn't make an AT the better option. MT gives the driver more control and a more engaged drive = a more pleasurable proposition.

As for "more pleasurable" - some people prefer stick, some people prefer paddles with an option of letting the transmission decide on its own. Nothing wrong with each preference.

A 'more pleasurable propostion'? You mean like you get to keep one hand on the wheel vs me optionally keeping two? And you've got to shove in a third pedal to orchestrate a shift, whereas I merely tap a paddle, F1 style? And you, not you you of course, could accidentally mis-shift, whereas I pretty much can't?

Having enjoyed this BRZ for three months, I can honestly say that the only reason my six MT's were sticks is because AT paddles were not optional on any of my past rides.

I get the 'purist' sentiment, but I would nowadays no sooner want to push in a third pedal to enable a shift, than I would want to use a hand crank (vs a button) to start my car.

Engagement? Hell, why not take it a step further - cut a hole in your floor and use Fred Flintstone brakes (great road feel guaranteed).

There's more control because you have the clutch pedal, it has nothing to do with the shifter. That's why I kind of like paddles in automatics, but honestly I just let an auto be an auto and I don't bother with the paddles in those cars too much. Paddles are a toy unless you are racing IMHO. My car is a manual- I don't care too much about the shifter, the clutch is what makes the difference. I'd love to have a manumatic with a clutch.

But in the OP's case, AT or MT wouldn't matter, it was all about reaction and handling.

Reacted today to a beer bottle in the road, I was going 55-60 and barely noticed it, it was directly in the middle of my lane, Quickly moved to the right and back in my lane in such an ease.

Also this is more on my brakes but, I recently changed my brake fluid to Motul RBF 660, and Winmax W5 pads Front & rear, track pads basically and very aggresive street pads, after bedding them in, they are good at making noise when braking lol, as if driving an 18 wheeler sometimes. I don't mind thethe squeal when it comes though. I was driving one time on the 101 Freeway, (lots of traffic in SoCal) going 70ish and it's a sudden stop up ahead, it's so bad that some cars infront of me swerved to the emergency lane to not hit the cars in front, I applied 80% brake pressure because I was nervous and forgot I upgraded my pads and fluid, I stopped instantly within a few seconds, I was so impressed but then I had to quickly give it gas afterwards as the drivers behind me couldn't brake as efficiently. It feels good having nice brakes. I now use the brakes a lot less as it's bite is strong, helps a lot in canyon runs and whenever I need to brake..I tested it out on a deserted straight away one day to check on my brakes, days after I bedded them, went 100mph and braked 80% and came to a nice stop pretty damn closely and calmly.

Brake pads & better brake fluid really help a lot in daily driving, you don't have to get as aggresive pads like me though, W3s would be just as good for daily + canyon.
