I swear I'll buy the Subaru version just to piss Toyota to fuck off. Scion needs a lot of fixing, the FT-86 isn't the car to do it. The FT-86 was designed to fix the problems the TOYOTA brand has.

Sometimes I wish I was just really cool with Akio Toyoda and could ask him anything about the car :p

The most recent post in that thread states that the article was posted in the Wall Street Journal, which is notorious for providing false information regarding the automotive industry.

In other words, I call BS. I would love it to come to the NY Auto show tho, I want to see it in person finally.

I can second you on this because i went the the OC auto Show this weekend and asked them about the FT-86 and they said the same thing about the 86 being a Scion. Now they werent specific on why but thats what they kept telling me and i asked MULTIPLE reps and they all mentioned the same response. This was my thread about the same topic...

While I don't like the idea of it being a Scion (Although I really don't care... There is no Scion here so it will almost certainly be marketed as a Toyota here), I can see why they are doing it...

If this were to happen it would be no surprise. The U.S. tends to get the watered down versions of many cars. Why is it in Europe they get the Focus RS and ST and we don't? Why has it taken so long to get the Skyline(not that I consider that watered down)? The Type R Civic hatch-nope,everybody else except us got that particular model.Do you see an ongoing trend here?

This car has no business being a scion;

- Too expensive for a scion
- Being a scion means you get everything or nothing (a/c, power, seat material etc), and prepared to get stabbed in the eye on useless options.
- Scion is a failing brand, and a marketing driven brand. Neither of which i'd like to have associated with my light weight sports car, thank you very much.
- Said marketing executives have lost the plot and totally f'ked up what scion was supposed to be, and why it USED to be a cool thing. They are looking for a halo shot to save the brand, but what they don't realize is that It could horribly backfire, in a lot of very nasty ways. Scion can still be saved, but the FT-86 won't do it.
- Don't want the FT-86 sitting around languishing on a 6 year cycle, like they gleefully did to the tC, after saying that they would be doing 3-4 year model cycles.

Ultimately, it doesn't affect me, because Scion isn't sold in my market, so it will get here as a Toyota most likely. That being said, I'm likely to be in Canada/Miami on an extended work project when this car comes out, so I'd be stuck with whatever the US market has to offer. I would seriously buy a Subaru before I buy a Scion. In fact, I'd be rooting for Nissan to bring back the Silvia and prepare to cut all ties with Toyota. I'm not a brand snob, but the thinking behind the positioning of this car worries me a lot.

Lemme tell you guys again, Scion Future Toyota 86 is a retarded name. Are they going to show concept here in the states as a Toyota or a Scion? This car is look too good to be Scion, not to mention Scion in motor sport is nothing but a shell with Toyota engine. ( yeah tC has Camry's0 engine and xB, xD....). Enough of rebadge engineering here in the states!!!

"The Wall Street Journal reports that Toyota management told dealers in Las Vegas there will be a production version of the FT-86 badged as a Scion model." - http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/10/r...gher-than-exp/

Read it carefully, there will be 'a' production 'version' of the FT86 'badged' as a scion model.

This does not necessarily mean that THE one and only FT86 production model will be Scion and thats it. From what I read, there will be a variant available badged under scion in NA. I am pretty confident that at least for the rest of the market, it will be released as a Toyota only model, whereas in NA there will be a possibility of a cheaper Scion model based on the FT86 in RWD format along with the production Toyota FT86.

Thank god we Aussies don't have to worry about any of this. I can almost guarantee it will be badged as a Toyota for us, just like they did with the Rukus.
