Components to upgrade for forced induction

I have heard that pistons and connecting rods are the weak point. Would like to know some qualified opinions. Also, are there any forged/race spec replacements under development? This gives a better idea of the cost of a forced induction system.

I'd assume it would depend on how much boost you want. If you're only pushing 6-8psi, your fortifications may not need to be quite so hefty.

Pistons will be necessary to lower the compression and rods will be necessary to hold the torque.

I wonder if we can get our hands on the JDM Subaru Legacy pistons/rods, which uses I believe a turbocharged FA20.

I guess the answer to your question is dependent on how much horsepower are you planning to push out. I say always go for reliable power meaning if you plan on having 400hp, build your engine to handle 600hp for reliability and safety - that's just me though.

But with different DI injectors and most likely different piston crowns... boo

well, aparently, if your looking anywhere in the range of having 450+whp you should be safe at 20psi. As long as you don't constantly bounce off the rev limiter...

Have you even looked at the F/I kits?? Take for instance the AP kit, they have been pushing over 400whp with no problems aside from the stock clutch and now the clutchfork.

Seems like its not the engine internals you should worry about... its more the rest of the driveline... Just sayn.

The motor seems pretty stout but rods and pistons will be needed. A new tranny + drivetrain will needed eventually(clutch before tranny) The rear end will probably break after 400whp and hard launches on DR's. its too soon to tell the true limit on all parts of this car, but its inevitable that if you are gonna push the power potential of this motor and want to race it you will need a built bottom end, built drivetrain and built rear end.

Well, as ive said, Don has been pushing over 400rwhp for quite a while now and not had one problem with the motor or daily driving it with that much WHP. He just does real-world things with it such as things that "we" would do with it. A few drag races here and there, drag strip runs, and hwy pulls. But, there is no telling till it happens, as far as the rods, pistons, and the block goes. Just be patient.

Obviously thats far more than this engine will be able to hold for a long time if ever.
