I personally like weighted shift because u know our gear box is kinda crunchy and notchy.
It helps me to shift smoothly and effortlessly especially on 1st and 2nd.
I am using 1lb blox.

It is crunchy! I was about to buy a short shifter, thinking that it would fix the problem...

Get a Raceseng shift knob that comes with a delrin cover. I personally use the Orbature and you get the extra weight but the Delrin cover doesn't get nearly as hot or cold as steel. They can be a bit pricey but are the best of both worlds IMO

The Delrin has a nice feel to it.

If you want a nice precise and positive shift feel, get a lightweight Delrin knob. If you want less positive feel and an easier shift, get a heavy shift knob. If you want the absolutely most phenominal feeling shift...you get rid of the entire stock shifter assembly and go with this:

I've seen this shifter set up before. But I've always wondered how they work, since they only go back and forth... Does it work like paddle shifters?

You are thinking of a Sequential transmission, pictured is the CAE Ultra shifter that still uses the traditional H pattern of the transmission.

I had both,

heavier knob = making shifting smooth, but it doesnt have any feel to it, the notchy feeling is gone. numb!

lighter knob = shifting is more precise, notchy and mechanical.

I had a Raceseng slammer (1.25lbs?) vs a genuine TRD Knob (lighter than oem).

Sold the Raceseng and stick with the TRD, however its all personal reference!

OP,

Did you have a chance to drive your buddy's car with the shift knob installed? If not, you install it in yours, and try it. Only you will know if you like it. If you don't you should be able to sell it without too much trouble. Personally, I installed a Raceseng Topology I bought from a fellow board member in my '15. In my opinion it's one of the best mods I've done. I don't think it removed the feel, just moderated it a bit. The trans can be pretty notchy with the light knob and this offers just the right amount of smoothness - for me.

I will do that. Thanks for the tip! I've felt the knob itself. It's heavy for sure, and pure metal. But I haven't shifted with it. I'll try it out on Thursday!

looks like spray painted BRZ trim to me.

I have also tried both heavy and light shift knobs (on my s14 and AE86). I prefer the light ones so I can "feel" the gears better, not just destroying synchros I cant feel.
delrin is great since its light, wont heat up and burn your hand.
but that's just my preference.
