Tire Suggestion for new wheels? :)

Alright guys just got my 2014 fr-s a few weeks ago. Got some xxr 527s 17x8.25 on black Friday.

Trying to find the right tire.

I am looking for a 225/45/r17 tire that will retain the slide-ability/fun of the stock primacies for fairly cheap.

I know the primacies will fit but I don't want to stretch them. not a fan of stretched tires.

Some I am considering:

Sumitomo HTR Z II
Yokohama avid
Hankook ventus s1 noble
Contenental extreme contact dw(I hear these have a weak sidewall)
General amax as-03

Thanks in advance

I have the DW. Have run them for 2 years on my brz. Great tire in the rain and dry well worth the money in my opinion.

Try throwing the newer Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 on your list. Had the opportunity to test these recently and they grip much better than the stock Primacies, but without the crazy amount of grip or turn in response of the MPSS. Comes in very affordable in the 225 size. I plan to put a set on my new wheels in the spring, except I may size up because the tread width is about the same as the primacies and not as wide as the max performance tires, so a small size may look stretched.

I've also driven the continentals, and they are also a very good option, and are also inexpensive when on sale.

If you're considering Sumitomos, go with the HTR ZIII instead of ZII. I used the ZIII a few years ago for street and track, and it was a solid budget MP tire. Quiet & smooth on the road, but sporty enough for some track use. Not as sticky as an EP tire (or even Pilot Super Sports), but sounds like you're not looking for something too grippy. Only negatives are they squeal loudly when you push them in corners, and will chunk if you track often and without enough camber.

Yeah I am not going to be tracking often and would prefer a tire I can break loose on stock power

Then honestly the tires you listed probably all have too much grip. General Altimax might be a better solution if you want them to slip a little at normal driving speeds.

Even high performance all seasons can have too much grip for fun on the streets. I run altimax on my yaris and they have boatloads more grip than the previous crappy all seasons I had.

I picked up some Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's for $67/per tire. Not Bad. Loads more grip.. Now I just have to make up for it with more power.

Would you mind posting some pics? i'd like to get these wheels too and go with a 225/45 tire I'd like to see how it looks on that tire size. Most of the pics i see are with a 245/40 tire.

If not I can upload it elsewhere when I get a chance.

It looks really good to me. Just needs more low..

I did not like the pics I saw of the stock tires on these wheels.

Yep that link worked. Looks great! Do you happen to have a side shot just so i can see how much gap there from the fender. Also, whats the offset you have +35?
