So is this an early sign for the axle failure I've been reading about? It seems like it affects FI'd and tracked/AutoX'd abused cars.

I'm currently N/A but perhaps the axle is the weak link on this car, and needs to be replaced before going FI for added safety.

Based on the discussion I've read so far it seems that the CV joint is the weak link, not the whole axle. It'd be nice if there was an aftermarket rebuild kit just for the CV joints.

Just took my car to the dealership in the morning today, told them about the clicking noise and the rep/foreman test drove it with me in the car and he replicated the sound.

Will give status report when my car is back (in about an hour or so).

yep, i just went with the whole axle since it only had 36 miles on it and was ~$150 less than the inner cv assembly by itself (new).

Looks like it's at the FedEx store awaiting pickup from me. Does anyone here know of a DIY post for swapping an axle on these things?
